Kaua'i Museum closed today due to weather!

Aloha from Kaua%26#39;i!

News flash! I just got a call from the Kaua%26#39;i Museum where I was scheduled to work this afternoon -they decided with the roads so bad that they didn%26#39;t want their workers out on the roads trying to get there -so they have closed the Museum today.

Sorry for everyone that I recommended the Museum to for today - this doesn%26#39;t happen very often at all - just goes to show what a big storm this is!

Malama Pono,

Janet,

Thank you for this timely information. I just got off the phone with my husband and they were trying to figure out what to do today. I started to suggest the museum since his buddy from PA has never been there and it is very interesting. Not sure what their plans are at this point. My husband made a comment about braving the weather to have lunch somewhere but they have groceries so they may stay put and enjoy the show.

Last December, we were able to get to the museum,no problem and it was a very nice day for the kids. So I know the closure is an unusual occurance. Stay dry!

Hi, Janet,

Thank you very much for the weather info! We are arriving next week. We checked the weather from weather.com, and it seems that the temperature is only around 75. Is that good enough for scuba diving? How%26#39;s the water? I really wanna hear from someone who%26#39;s there!

Thank you!

Eileen

The original post here is a month old. If you want current weather check:

Ignore weather.com. They%26#39;re almost always wrong when it comes to the islands.

The water is fine, especially with a wetsuit.

that%26#39;s good to know! Thanks!

So bring a sweater for the evenings. I think it has been colder than usual at night.

There are a series for storms scheduled to hit all the islands over the next 7 days. Kauai and Oahu being very exposed usualy bear the brunt

Yes 74-76 wil be the normal high... and water temp will be low 70 to high 60. You will need a full wetsuit.... Diving conditions will vairy based on surge and storm swell. Its the same for all islands

Kauai has the furthur problem of lots of runoff which can cloud the ocean for days.

NOAA longrange forcast for Jan/_April indicates wetter then normal...

As a general rule, for all Hawaii, the more nort you go in the state the worse the diving and snorkeling get. Kauai having the least and Big Island the best.

If your trip is diving oriented...and in winter like now ( our storm period thru April) Consider Maui or Big Island

Kauai got a whopper of a storm last night but it lasted about 30 minutes. 50 mile an hour winds, lightning and flash floods. I couldn%26#39;t see the building in front of me. I woke up at 6AM to clear skies, waterfall filled mountains and sun until a few hours ago. It is now cloudy and much cooler with waves probably 15 feet. My point is a storm can be long or very brief. I was expecting all day rain today if I had listened to HDan and the weather forecast.

It never is what they say it is!
