Maui's Best Offshore Snorkeling

Hello

I am going to Maui in Feb and was just wondering the best place to go for offshore snorkeling? Or is going with a tour our best bet?

Thanks!

Weather and ocean conditions are always changing, so before going to the beach, you will want to check with local snorkel and dive operations, and the Hawaii Lifeguards website at:

Having, said that, my favorites in South Maui for new snorkelers are Ulua Beach, and Maluaka Beach (Maui Prince Resort.

In West Maui, my home beach and favorite for new snorklers is Kahekili Beach (Old Airport Beach) on the North Ka`anapali beach side.

While Ahihi Cove is a good site, it is being overused, and I will stop recommending it for newbies who are likely to stand on and kill the living corals.

Kapalua Bay and Honolua Bay may be dangerous when the winter storms make them good for surfing, and just plain stupid for swimming.

No one can tell you what the best snokeling site will be on any given day more than 1-2 days in advance (Ok maybe 3 days).

You%26#39;ll get people giving you their experience of a great spot, but it may or may not be good the day you want to go. Conditions change daily and often hourly, due to swell, runoff, wind, tides and currents.

Check conditions locally when you get here. Most of the snorkel rental places %26amp; dive shops will be able to give you a recommendation for that day.

Thank you! great advice.

Check out Trilogy catamarans. We love them. They choose the best spot according to conditions that day. Been to both Honolua Bay and Olawalu.

Black Rock in Ka%26#39;anapali has always been good to me.... Everytime I have been there, its been pretty good. Its even better if you go on the other side of black rock. There%26#39;s usually Sea Turtles frolicking about, singing and dancing....

Ahhh, you said ';offshore';... my apologies.

What is offshore snorkeling? If you%26#39;re that into snorkeling you need to blow bubbles, get certified!

... there is great snorkeling literally everywhere that looks calm clear and isn%26#39;t just sand.
