Haiku Stairs trailhead??

I realize that the stairs are closed and it%26#39;s basically because of the parking around the area. And I know there is a guard there as well. I also know that people hike it everyday. I will not have a car, if someone could please let me know the secret way to the trailhead i%26#39;d appreciate it. Theres a free lunch for it from a true haole. no joke. I am not an idiot who doesnt know what he%26#39;s getting into. Thanks a lot!

Haiku Stairs trailhead??

There are very few people climb it daily.

Some of those get permits in the name of inspecting or research and they do it legally. I don%26#39;t know what group(s) these people belong to nor how you could contact them.

Rather than Haiku Stairs, I suggest you hike to the top of Koko Head Crater.

Google: Koko Head Crater Hike

Also there is another trail on the windward side that overlooks Lanikai. I think it is Kaiwa Ridge Trail.

Haiku Stairs trailhead??

Whenever we drive H3 we try to see the hikers. We usually see them. That said, I can%26#39;t tell you exactly, I haven%26#39;t done the hike.

Having no luck googling?

Here%26#39;s a link that might help:

I drive the H3 frequently and rarely see people on the stairs anymore. Years ago? Yes---it was rare NOT to see people on the stairs, even after its closing.

But now? No.

Do we get to vote on that?

Of course you can vote. But, according to your posts you were for me before you were against me! Hillary used this as her platform unsuccesfully. I hope you don%26#39;t do the same.

I am sorry. your two names are very similar. and yes, you still can vote on it!!!!

The confusion happens often.

Kailua MOM lives in California.

KailuaMAMA lives in Kailua. I am KailuaMama.

The Stairway to Heaven is closed. It is illegal to enter the area. People do NOT ';hike it every day.'; There are still some who manage to sneak around the guard and get on to the trail.

One ';hiker'; slipped and fell a while ago and was found dead at the bottom of the trail---his motorcycle was found somewhere near the beginning of the trail.

So maybe you%26#39;d care to help me understand---just why would you want to come here and break the law? And why should we who live here be eager to help you do so?

I too am amazed at people who who feel so cool and entitled that laws in Hawaii should not apply to them...entering closed areas, lying on contracts, sneaking into hotel, Luaus, ,drinking on the beach Etc..

No your not an Idiot....your planning, cold and calculating on breaking our laws here and thumbing your nose at our laws because you do what ever you want to do.... and nobody is going to tell you what to do...

In in Hawaii we call people who do this criminals not idiots....what do you call them in NY?

You are a real Haole....(That term here is used in the most disrespectful way by Hawaiians.. Its as racial nasty as it can is equal to the N word on the mainland.)

I think the real idiots here are the taxpayers as usual. Spent well over 800K to have the stairs fixed up nicely for hikers in 2002, but now they are closed because of liability and access issues?

That seems criminal to me!

Here%26#39;s a group that is trying to get the stairs reopened. They actually have strong support in Kaneohe as well as other parts of Oahu and the state. Not enough to sway Mufi yet, but hopefully soon.

From reading the ';news'; on the Friend of Haiku Stairs site, the only viable access solution is the land owned by DHHL (Department of Hawaiian Homelands, Mike), and both DHHL and Kamehameha Schools Bishop Estate would need to sign off.

So they want something before they%26#39;ll give it. The land swap deal fell apart because the City land offered was encumbered ...

(this is summarizing what the web page states, not my own knowledge).

Mike, people like you who climb it anyway are a big part of why it%26#39;s closed:

From the ';friends'; website:

';Illegal climbers are a crucial, perhaps definitive problem. Their abuse of prohibited access points in the nearby neighborhood, often involving trespass onto private property, has caused a significant number of residents to become antagonistic toward the Stairs.

Through certain residents%26#39; political influence, various government officials have taken a hostile position on the Stairs and have managed to delay the opening. It is likely that had would-be climbers remained patient and not tried to make the climb illegally, the City would not have encountered this negativism, would have been able to complete the land swap, and we would be well on our way to opening the hike.';
