First Trip to Maui

We are planning a romantic trip to Maui the middle of September. We are having a hard time deciding between the Hyatt and the Sheraton. We would greatly appreciate any advice or comments that would help us decide.

First Trip to Maui

September is a great time to go. Most of the families have gone home to get the kids in school and things are a bit quieter and less crowded. And the weather is typically great then.

Everyone has their preferences in accommodations so the answers to your question will be somewhat subjective. But here goes...

Both are great properties. My preference would be the Sheraton. The tipping factor for me is the beach and it%26#39;s close proximity to Whaler%26#39;s Village. The beach in front of the Hyatt is small and somewhat rocky. The widest section of sand on all of Ka%26#39;anapali beach is in front of the Sheraton. Decent snorkeling right there and even better snorkeling a 5 minute walk north along Kehekili beach. The Sheraton is less formal and a bit more laid back - great beachside/poolside bar and just a five minute walk to the restaurants and shops at Whalers.

Others will have equally strong feelings about the Hyatt. Bottom line is - you%26#39;ll have a great vacation at either location.

Both have their pluses...I would choose the Sheraton, as VC noted the beach infront is much better in front of the Sheraton..free shuttles to Lahaina are also a plus.

Another vote for the Sheraton for sure! Have a wonderful trip!

I totally agree with VC on that %26#39;sweet spot%26#39; north of Black Rock. Either hotel would be very nice.

September should be a lovely time to go.

Thank you so much for your advice. The beach is important and the laid back atmosphere is what we are looking for. The Sheraton sounds the best bet.

Another question. The room that we are looking at is in theHale Moana building which looks like it is on top of Black Rock. Are the grounds as large and vast as they appear on the map? Looks like a long way down to the beach, but a great view!

We have stayed at the Hyatt two times and we loved it, it is a great hotel, however we are going back in July and staying at the Sheraton just for a change. I think you cant go wrong with either property.

The Sheraton is an excellent choice.

The Hale Moana rooms (Bldg 6) is on top of Black Rock. It%26#39;s quiet, and the balconies look down into the sea and across the channel to Molokai and Lanai. The rooms are fairly large with a few more amenities (like a microwave). Because they are on top of Black Rock, you take a elevator to another elevator and then down to the beach. It%26#39;s not far at all, and you%26#39;ll find that it become like a reflex after a while. At the top of Black Rock is an open-air rotunda room with the most AMAZING view. FYI - Bldg 6 has its own parking area ... very handy!

Also, Building 4 is very nice. It looks out over the lawn and the pool area to the beach. Large rooms, large balconies. Ask for an upper floor.

I have stayed in both buildings several times.

Well, I took all of your advice and booked the Sheraton with the ocean front room. Thanks lots!

We will be there on the 19th of September and I%26#39;m sure I will have a lot more questions between now and then. I can always depend on the great people on Tripadvisor.
