How many days should we plan?

We are going to Oahu first and then flying over to Kauai. Our flight back is direct from Lihue. How many days should we stay in Kauai versus Oahu. We are planning to stay in Kapaa, kayak down the Wailua River, check out the Waimea Canyon and a luau one night. We will have a rental car the entire time as well.

Any other things we should definitely do? We live in South Florida, so we want to do activities we can%26#39;t normally do here.

Thanks for the help in advance.

How many days should we plan?

How many days total do you have? Most people spend a few days on Oahu and then a week to 10 days on Kauai.

Lots of other things to do on Kauai. Helicopter ride, zipline, surfing, snorkeling, hiking, Napali Boat Tour. I could go on and on. Buy a guidebook and based on how may days you%26#39;ll be there will dictate what you do. If you are coming this summer you might want to think about staying on the beautiful North Shore, but Kapaa is central to the island so you can get to all areas easily from this city.

How many days should we plan?

On Oahu I%26#39;d take a day for Pearl Harbor/shopping, another for a drive along the North Shore and perhaps do the Polynesian Cultural center if you like that sort of thing. Other than that, Oahu is not a place I enjoy so head elsewhere. There is nightlife in Waikiki and virtually none on Kauai so if that%26#39;s an issue you might adjust accordingly.

Sorry I forgot to mention 7 days total. Most likely Tuesday afternoon until Friday night will be in Kauai. The rest in Oahu. I am afraid of heights so a helicopter is a no. Zipline is a maybe depending on cost. We will be snorkeling and are bringing our own masks with us. We are trying to do the best things that budget friendly.

Any waterfalls?

7 nights? I would skip Oahu or just one day to see Pearl Harbor.

There are lots of things to do on Kauai that don%26#39;t cost a lot of money. Hiking, snorkeling etc.

Look over some of these websites:

You%26#39;re coming all the way from Florida for only 7 days? Normally I%26#39;d say just ONE island for a trip of only 7 days. So much time is wasted travelling between islands and getting settled in again. But I see you%26#39;re locked into your flights home out of Kauai.

You need to decide what you must see and do on each island and go from there. You%26#39;re on the Kauai board so there%26#39;s a bias here towards Kauai of course. Others could make a case for spending more time on Oahu than Kauai and there IS so much more of Oahu than Waikiki.

Two nights: First night, take a full-day Gray Line tour or similar the next day to see the main Oahu sights, then fly out the next morning to Kauai.

I agree with the others, maybe two days on Oahu to see the main sites and then over to paradise!

As I noted before, I live in South Florida. I get bored easily and have to stay busy. Relaxation for me is not sitting on a beach, which I can do here. I have been snorkeling all over the place, so we will probably only do this for a few hours one day. Where would be the best place?

I am landing Tuesday morning, renting a car and heading straight to the Canyon, maybe some hiking, checking into a hotel and then going to a local restaurant or luau. This still leaves all of Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. I fly back at 10:45 pm.

We will be kayaking down the river one morning and doing a zipline another day. Also playing golf if we can find a course. This still leaves over a day left.

It is best to do the canyon early in the morning.

For a luau I recommend Smith%26#39;s. Kayaking is a fun idea. Wailua River or Hanalei River are two choices.

I saved a trip review from a lady who came over in August. I thought some of the things she did were interesting and informative. Here%26#39;s the link. It has restaurant suggestions, waterfalls she saw, trips she did like the Lighthouse etc.

That last day you could drive to the North Shore, check out the Lighthouse, drive onto Hanalei Town for surf lessons and lunch and experience the beauty. Stop at some road side stands. Visit the candle factory for gifts etc.

Even though you live in Florida I think you%26#39;re going to find the beaches on Kauai are completely different than what you%26#39;re used to.

In other words, I wouldn%26#39;t discount some visits to some of the more hidden beaches with some of the most beautiful backdrop scenery in the world. Picture hiking a quick trail through lush jungle-like vegetation to get to a beach with beautiful backdrops of mountains, waterfalls. On Kauai, the beach isn%26#39;t about just sitting on the beach. Try checking out places like Secret Beach (hikes to waterfalls on the beach), Hideaways, Lumahai, Tunnels. I think you would realize these beaches ARE places the likes of which you don%26#39;t have in Florida and can%26#39;t do there.

A day with nothing planned? I%26#39;d leave it that way. Decide once you get there.
