Trip Itinerary - Any suggestions / recommendations ?

Hi all, starting to get really excited only two days till our trip. My fiance and I are heading to Waikiki for 9nights on Thursday. I have a rough itinerary sketched out, hoping for some input, suggestions or ideas from you Hawaii guru%26#39;s out there...

Thurs - Flight arrives 8am, drop luggage at Waikiki hotel explore surrounding areas familiarise ourselves with the area for a few hours till checkin.Spend rest of Thursday on the beach. Any suggestiosn for dinner / evening drink ? Staying at Hotel Renew so something closeby would be sweet.

Fri - Sunday Visit Zoo, Diamond head, International Market place. No hire car at this stage so restricted to public transport or cabs. Any other suggestions ? We will definately be getting alot of beach time in but open to hear about other local attractions and stuff to fill in our evenings?

Mon - Visit Hanuama bay for some snrokelling. Squeeze in some shopping in the afternoon also.

Tues - We doing the Kos Lost Hummer 5hr tour from 7am, back in Waikiki by lunchtime for some more lazying at the beach.

Wed - Pickup hire car for 3 days, want to do Aloha stadium swap meet %26amp; Pearl Harbour (USS Arizona memorial etc). Thinking of doing swap meet in the morning and Arizona memorial in the afternoon, is this advisable? Anything else worth seeing over this side of town ?

Thur - Do the Great Circle drive tour of the island, making heaps of beach stops and doing the drive at our own leisurely pace.

Fri - Visit Waikele outlet shops %26amp; Ala Moana outdoor mall. Hopefully get some more snorkel time at Hanuama Bay in the arvo. A nice dinner / drinks for our last night

Sat - Fly out at 9.30am :( !!!

Any comments / suggestions about planned itinerary or anything i%26#39;ve not included. Also some ideas for evening activities would be appreciated.

Cheers, Floyd %26amp; Sil

Trip Itinerary - Any suggestions / recommendations ?

I am not an expert, just looking for info on a trip we are planning for July but I%26#39;ve been to Hawaii 3 times (the last time was in 1986) and have been to Oahu, Hawaii, Maui and Kawaii. If it were me I would spend 4 nites in Honolulu and 5 nites at one of the other islands. If you can%26#39;t do the other islands maybe try doing them as a day trip.

Trip Itinerary - Any suggestions / recommendations ?

Have yo considered a luau as one of your evening dinner activities? Paradise Cove is one of the best, they pick you up, so no car needed. House Without a Key ( Halekulani Hotel) is nice for sunset viewing. Any interest in ChinaTown? The Bus will get you there.

Definitely do the swap meet early (they open at 6), The wait at Pearl Harbor shouldn%26#39;t be too long if you get there before noon. We really enjoyed the Creations show at the Princess Kaiulani hotel. The food at the dinner show was just okay but to get a good seat you need to do the dinner instead of the cocktail show. Ther are discount coupons available, 25% off, I think.

Have a great time! Seventy three days before we fly out!

You need to add a sunset sail and dinners at Dukes and Margarataville

Saturday the farmers market at Kapioliani Community College is great - it is right at the base of Diamond Head. I would combine the two, Diamond Head early then the farmets market. Please keep in mind the market closes early, so with Jet lag, it may be hard for you to do Diamond Head then the farmers market.

I usually make that rec to folks coming from the other direction who are waking up really early!

Beware of tourist traps. The Swap Meet is hot and the goods are cheap and junky. It looks like shopping is a priority for you - so don%26#39;t spend your time there looking at imported junk and T-shirts that are irregular.

Waikele Outlets %26amp; the Ala Moana Shopping Center - this will take you ALL day (and maybe all night!)

You are missing the Bishop Museum and the Iolani Palace! These are both important for a real perspective of Hawaii, it%26#39;s people and it%26#39;s history. You can easily take The Bus to either.

The Polynesian Cultural Center (PCC) is a must - and it is a full day with an excellent evening show. Go on-line and look at their packages. They can pick you up at your hotel if you like. The PCC is a good hour from Waikiki.

As always, scroll down through the posts on this forum for the past few weeks. Questions about Oahu/Honolulu activities come up constantly.

And Floyd, the Honolulu Zoo is OK -- but not as a trade off for all the things that you can do that are unique to Hawaii. The International Market is not as ';romantic'; as it sounds. Not a good place to shop - you have tons of other, better options.

I agree with Kailuamom definitely go to the farmers market on sat morning at kcc I love it.

As far as a place to eat the first night maybe Tiki%26#39;s Bar and Grill or Lulu%26#39;s both close to the Renew but really most everything in Waikiki is not that far a walk. A nice place to eat on last night I would suggest the Hau Tree Lanai in the New Otani Kaimana Beach Hotel you sit under this huge hau tree overlooking the beach very romantic and picturesque here%26#39;s the hotel website if you want to check ou the restaurant

www.kaimana.com

just a nice stroll from your hotel past Kapiolani Park.

While your doing your circle around the island and hitting the beaches I reccomend Waimananlo State Rec Area lovely uncrowded beach especially on weekdays and stop at Byodo In Temple on the windward side very lovely place.

Aloha Marie

Thanks for all of the useful comments guys, will incorporate alot of what you all recommended into our itinerary.

After reading a bit more about the Zoo on these forums may opt to give it a miss. cheers

Go to Duke%26#39;s Barefoot Bar on Sunday at sunset for a drink. There is a real party atmosphere and Hawaiian band playing. If you%26#39;re lucky enough to score a table while you%26#39;re at the bar having a drink, stay for a bite to eat.

I would recommend doing Dusty%26#39;s two circle island driving tours on different days rather than trying to conquer the whole island with one drive.

Leave the international market place for a visit after dinner. It%26#39;s not worth wasting daylight on IMO.

Hope that helps

Baz
