Island suggestion

I%26#39;m planning on attending a meeting in Honolulu which ends Saturday October 24th. I was hoping to stay in Hawaii until Wednesday but wanted to change hotel venues.

I%26#39;m trying to get an idea of how easy it is to travel to a different, possibly quieter island, to relax and enjoy some different scenery.

Ideally I%26#39;m looking for a quiet resort/hotel which has snorkeling nearby to stay at with my wife that wouldn%26#39;t too hard to get to for a couple nights after the conference.

Probably too hard to give specific hotel recs but which, if any, islands are easy to get to from Honolulu and offer good snorkeling.

Thanks.

Peter

Island suggestion

All islands are easy to get to from O`ahu. Big Island has the best snorkeling and the live volcano, few beaches. Maui has good snorkeling and a dormant volcano worth seeing, lots of beaches. Kaua`i is the quietest island with the most striking scenery, lots of beaches, some almost deserted but decent snorkeling only at a few.

Island suggestion

Thanks that helps. Besides Honolulu, what%26#39;s the next biggest airport for getting flights back to the mainland?

I would take a look at the North shore of Oahu...To be frank you are going to lose at least half a day flying between islands and your time frame doesn%26#39;t allow for that. A day or two doesn%26#39;t do justice to you or another island! Take a look at Ko%26#39;Olina or Turtle bay on the North shore, a short drive north from Honolulu.

When do you get to Oahu?

Will you be able to see much of Oahu on the day(s) you have meetings?

If you are going to be on Oahu 7 days or less, stay on Oahu.

Lots of info including sites with free brochures for all islands:

I won%26#39;t have any site seeing/relaxing time during the meeting which starts at 7AM each morning. Because of the short amount of free time during the week, I was hoping to relax and recover after the meeting.

Because of the time, I don%26#39;t have any expectations to be able to see everything on any particular island. More looking for a nice quiet resort/beach/snorkeling to relax at. A few people have told me that Oahu is particularly busy and I should look into another island potentially.

I have not been to Hawaii before so I%26#39;m beginning my ';research'; now, though realistically to see Hawaii it looks like it requires a dedicated vacation/return trip.

Appreciate everyone%26#39;s thoughts/recs on this.

Will the conference fee include airfare in and out of Honolulu, or can you fly home from another island? (We don%26#39;t know where %26#39;home%26#39; is for you.)

Easiest would be to move to Turtle Bay for your post-conference nights. The %26#39;rest%26#39; of Oahu is totally different from Honolulu -- a beautiful, tropical island.

Or...try Maui. It has your desired snorkeling and the most scheduled flights at its Kahului airport(to/from Oahu and mainland).

Remember that although flight time is brief, you%26#39;ll put in %26#39;airport time%26#39; with security, car rental, etc. for even one %26#39;hop%26#39;.

We recently spent 5 nights on Oahu and 4 nights on Maui. We%26#39;re glad we visited and explored Oahu and visited Pearl Harbor, but we really LOVED Maui. On our way back home we flew out of Kahului (OGG) on Maui back to the states.

You can catch an interisland flight to Maui. Stay in W. or So Maui. Lots of options and excellent snorkeling and other attractions, restaurants, etc.

And yes, we give hotel specific recommendations ALL the time. Please scroll down through the Maui Forum.

Home is Chicago so I know there%26#39;s a direct flight to Honolulu most if not every day. My airfare/hotel plans are up to me since they%26#39;re out of pocket expenses and not part of the meeting. I just need to arrive in Hononulu Tuesday from Chicago and any extra time will be Saturday through Tuesday with Wednesday being my travel day back to Chicago.
