We are traveling to Maui for our Honeymoon, Aug 30 through Sept 5. We definitly want to rent a Jeep Wrangler. Were can we get the best deal, that is reliable? I would rather support a local owned company, or are we better off going with a national firm like Thrifty or Hertz?

I have seen lots and lots of Jeeps at Alamo. That is really your best way to go. You are still supporting people on Maui - they work there.
The 4 door unlimited seems to be wildly popular. .

jmarino - Supporting the local businesses is a great idea, as the previous poster stated you will be doing so by renting the car. However there are a multitude of options.
http://www.bio-beetle.com/ They rent Jeeps, all vehicles are powered by bio-diesel. Located in Kihei and they will pick you up.
http://www.kiheirentacar.com/ Another locally owned company that has a good reputation.
Two other options are AA Aloha (hawaiicarrental.com) and discounthawaiicarrental.com. Both of these are agencies on the islands that actually book via the major car rental companies - there is the choice of booking direct through them, or they will take a few minutes to research and get back to you - then provide you with a code that will allow you to book directly with the major companies.
If you are a COstco member they offer very good rates as well.
