best parts of island with little children for swimming

I am planning a trip to Maui in October with my 4yr old %26amp; 1 yr old. Iwould like to know what part of the island is less windy and good for wading for the children

Downtown Lahaina has a beach called Baby Beach. It is shallow and no waves. Lots of toddlers. Puunoa Resort is on baby beach.

or at the other end of downtown Lahaina is Lahaina Shores condos and it is protected by a reef. No waves on the sandy beach. Beyond the reef is a good place for a surf lesson.

Downtown Lahaina rarely has any wind and is hotter air temp.

Are there parts of the island that are more windy then other parts? Thanks.

All of the beaches are subject to winds - but Kapalua and Maalaea areas are generally the windiest. October should be a great time to visit Maui. With the ages of your chldren I would suggest: Napili, the north side of Black Rock, any of the Kamaole beaches in Kihei, (Kam I or II would be my suggestion there for all reasons you have stated), Maluaka down in front of the Maui Prince. Along with the good sugestions from JimGloria.

To add to an already good list: Keawakapu at the northern tip of the Wailea beaches.

It%26#39;s usually good to plan beach time early in the mornings; wind can pick up by noon.

I like the Kamaole Beach Parks because not only is the beach nice, but there%26#39;s shade and some big grassy areas for kids to RUN. Also picnic tables, facilities, life guards. It%26#39;s convenient to run across the street to one of the many take-out places if you haven%26#39;t brought your own picnic.
