Maui Hotels- Westin, Westin Ocean Villas or Sheraton?

Hi everyone! My fiance and I are thinking about taking a trip to Maui this July for a one week stay. This would be the first time in Hawaii for both of us.

We are in our late 20%26#39;s, considering eloping/getting married summer of 2010 in Hawaii so this trip could help us decide if it%26#39;s for us or not. We are a semi-active couple- on vacation, we mostly enjoy laying by the pool or playing in the ocean, but we occasionally leave our resort to explore %26amp; do activities. We also like to laze around in our room in the late afternoon %26amp; evening.

I%26#39;ve been reading TONS of information about the Westin, Westin Ocean Villas %26amp; the Sheraton but can%26#39;t decide which would be our best bet. I have some concerns about the OVR being timeshare- will it have a resort feel? Will it be ';luxurious'; enough for a romantic time? Will it be overrun with young children in July? The Westin %26amp; Sheraton, however, are $500 %26amp; $400 more respectively for the week. Part of me leans toward the Westin as I%26#39;ve read it%26#39;s a ';slightly higher class'; %26amp; has nicer furnishings overall (the room is important to us.) I%26#39;ve also read that it%26#39;s got that greener feel. I like the Sheraton for the very close snorkeling, the expansiveness rather than being cramped %26amp; the fact that it might have less children. I%26#39;ve heard the rooms are bigger but not as nice as the Westin.

For those of you who are familiar with all three resorts, given the price (with the Westin villas being almost $500 cheaper for the week) %26amp; our desire to have a romantic, fun but relaxing vacation in a gorgeous location, which would you choose?

*Also- we would not be springing this time for an ocean view this time around, so it%26#39;s not a consideration here.

I would really appreciate ANY feedback! This trip isn%26#39;t cheap %26amp; we want to make the right choice without regrets!

Maui Hotels- Westin, Westin Ocean Villas or Sheraton?

OK here goes...first of all in July all 3 will have lots of kids, just no getting around that.

We have stayed at all three and own at the Villas.

Between the 2 hotels I would choose the Sheraton because of the grounds and the beach. However I would take the Villas over all.

They have a lovely ';resort'; feel to them and the beach in front is fantastic. The big advantage, especially if you are going to spend time in your room, is that even the studio units are very large... twice the size of a hotel room with a couch, chairs and a flat screen TV. And you have a kithenette for snacks etc.

During our stay in Jan we gifted our daughter and her SO with a night at the Sheraton while we watched his boys...they loved it but commented that the room seemed very small after staying in our studio!

You can also use the free shuttle to check out the Westin and the Sheraton.

Check out this post by another TA member about her wedding at the Villas in Feb.

Good luck planning

mamma covered it well, I agree 100% and would head to WKORV - it%26#39;s really not a long walk from there to Whalers Village if you are young and active (I did it two years ago and even my kids are past their 20%26#39;s) and I think the beach on the north side of Black Rock is an often overlooked gem.

Shuttle%26#39;s are so handy when you tire of walking.

Thank you both! I think we are preparing to book the Westin Villas this afternoon!

Aloha!

Sheraton for me.

Westin Villas will have more kids as the units are timeshares and many families utilize them.

Plus, you just cannot beat the beach at the Sheraton. As you know, it is great for swimming/snorkeling.

Shearton for us also, but I%26#39;m sure you will enjoy it wherever you stay.

I know everyone is highlighting the Sheraton, But personally, we loved the Westin. We stayed there last year for our honeymoon and it was unbelievable. Even though it had kids, all resorts that time of year will mostly have kids. The pool was beautiful and so much fun. With the slide, it makes you feel like a lid again. One of the restaurants had entertainment on the weekend with a live Reggae singer.

Also, we are in the same age group, mid-late 20%26#39;s, looking for fun and romance and the Westin was perfect.

Also, I think it had the best spa I have ever been to. When you tell them you are honeymooners, they may give you a free poolside cabana massage which was really nice. If not, you should still check out the spa and their couples%26#39; massages.

Whalers Village was right around the corner from the resort and that was great for shopping and restaurant.

Also, in the middle of the lobby at the Westin, there is a pond with beautiful flamingo%26#39;s, fish and parrots that are great to look at.

All in all, it%26#39;s your decision, but don%26#39;t neglect the Westin as we had an unforgettable time. Good Luck!

The Sheridian hands down for a honeymoon as both westin properties(stayed at the Westin villas in 07 and 08) is Kid central not a real romantic atomsphere if it%26#39;s just the two of you.

Sheraton. The rooms are beautiful! Large. Great balconies and views. Wonderful pool and easy access snorkeling. Excellent food services. Short walk to Whaler%26#39;s Village. Shuttle to Lahaina.

Walk up and around Black Rock - on top. There are a few places that would be perfect for a small wedding ceremony.

When you get ready to book rooms, scroll down through the past couple weeks%26#39; posts, as there have been a few detailed questions on Sheraton rooms.

The Westin is a kid-magnet and most of the rooms are very small and oddly-shaped. Very noisy from the pools and general acoustics of the building lay-out -- and because Whaler%26#39;s Village is next door. We got a great deal -- and even then it wasn%26#39;t worth it!

I have not stayed at the Villas - but I am not sure that you really want a condo. I think that the Sheraton area (south of Black Rock) has more to offer within easy walking distance.

Westin-one more vote for the Westin-have been there many times, just love it.

Another vote for the Westin - we really liked its location along the beach path - next door to Whaler%26#39;s Village for great restaurants, and close to the Sheraton for snorkeling. For a honeymoon, I would definitely choose the Westin for its beautiful grounds and romantic ambience.
