Help me set up this dinner date!

My family of 4 (wife plus 2 children 5 and 2) + our nanny are headed to West Maui on sunday for 12 days.....VERY excited!

Part of the perk of bringing our nanny / sitter is that darling wife and I will be able to go out a few times at night WITHOUT the little ones.

I%26#39;m picturing a walk at sunset along a beach. Eventually ending up at a nice oceanfront restaurant with a casual atmosphere. We%26#39;d like some exotic, different foods but not at a Ruth%26#39;s Chris pricetag. Maybe share a bottle of wine or order some pomegranite mojitos (tipped that it%26#39;s a ';must-try';) or other exotic drinks. Close it off with some killer dessert.

Any ideas on a beach that will accommodate this and a restaurant to look for?

Any other good date ideas? Is the magic show really a nice night out? Or just a GREAT show?

All help appreciated...

Aloha CD,

OK, here is one of what will probably be MANY suggestions here on the forum...I think it would be SO romantic to go to Merriman%26#39;s in Kapalua for drinks at their famous Foam Bar and maybe order the Dr. Phil%26#39;s Sexy Cilantro w/the secret foam topping or any of the other foam topped drinks and with that order some of the pupus like the Parmesan %26amp; Truffle Dusted French Fries...$9.00. Afterwards walk out to the Kapalua Beach for that romantic beach walk OR how about going for dessert, which could be the Flaming Pepper Pineapple or their famous Chocolate %26amp; Peanut Butter Bombe and coffee and then that Kapalua beach walk? I didn%26#39;t suggest dinner only because you said you don%26#39;t want to pay those Ruth Chris prices and Merriman%26#39;s is a bit pricey for dinner, but it is in the MOST beautiful romantic setting right on Kapalua Bay!

So you are staying in Kapalua? Too bad, I was going to recommend the ';private sunset dinner'; at the Westin...my DH surprized me with 3 hours of heaven for our 30th anniverary. It was awesome, but expensive. Leilani%26#39;s is our go to for a lovely dinner! Make reservations for the ';rail'; at sunset.

And for just a fun night out check out the Maui Brewing Co. in Kahana on the week-ends they have music and the food is great! May have to try out SantaBarbaraBeachGals advice next trip! Love these boards!

The Seahouse at Napili Bay on the rail can be very nice. The beach there is just made for a pleasant evening stroll.

The Seahouse at Napili Kai. It even has tiki torches. Nice sandy beach and beyond the restaurant is a lava ocean path. They sunk down the bar so you look over the bar tenders head at the lenght of the beach. Free parking.

There is a magic show at the Kaanapali Beach Hotel and it has good traditional style of magic plus more.

Then there is a Warren and Annabels show which is a specially built theatre with up close - slight of hand magic mixed in with comedy.

Where are you staying? You mention a magic show, so are you going to be at or near the Kaanapali Beach Hotel? If so, I vote for a walk along the beach to Leilani%26#39;s.

It%26#39;s a short drive into Lahaina, but one night for dinner try the Aloha Mixed Plate. They had a great happy hour, which I think is from 2pm - 6pm.

im confused you want a romantic nite out and you are considering a magaic show --- also you are paying for a nanny to make this trip with you and yet you dont want to spring for a ruths chris price tag for this romantic dinner with exotic different foods -- since thats the case i cant suggest capische? or ferraros

Pomegranate martinis are not ';exotic';. You can get those anywhere, including your own home if you buy the ingredients at your local grocery store. Try something that you can%26#39;t get at home.

Dinner at the Sea House at the Napili Kai in Napili. Lovely atmosphere, right on the beach with great food. Choose a Wednesday, and you can stay for the Master%26#39;s of Slack Key Concert. We have attended several times and love it. Hosted by Geo Kahumoku with top, award-winning slack key artists every week. This concert series has 3 Grammys. http://www.slackkey.com/

Make reservations for dinner and the concert.

We also like Leilani%26#39;s upstairs at Whaler%26#39;s Village. Park at Whaler%26#39;s Village and walk down to the Sheraton Maui for a pre-dinner drink and watch the torch ceremony/dive off of Black Rock (free). Check with the Sheraton Maui for the time. Walk back to Leilani%26#39;s for dinner (reservations!) and then spend as much time on the beach as you like - or browse the shops at Whaler%26#39;s Village. Perhaps buy your sweetie something at Na Hoku (jewelry).

Magic show ... are you talking about Warren and Annabelle%26#39;s in Lahaina? It wouldn%26#39;t be my choice, but in the same area is %26#39;Ulalena -- wonderful! www.ulalena.com/

Perhaps have dinner at Kimo%26#39;s in Lahaina.

I would recommend checking out the Feast at Lele. It%26#39;s right on the beach, at sunset, and combines a great dinner and luau-type shows from various Polynesian Pacific islands. You do need to be adventurous in terms of food because they do try to be authentic.

Enjoy whatever you decide.

Thanks thanks and more thanks.

We%26#39;re staying north of Kaanapali, so all suggestions will work.

Ok let%26#39;s go all out. Price doesn%26#39;t matter. Just looking for a great atmosphere on the beach and the napili area sounds exciting.

Ok Pomegrate mojito may not be exotic. But I don%26#39;t exactly see them on my drink menu at our local El Chico here.

As for the magic show suggestion, didn%26#39;t know if that%26#39;d be good for a second night out, or if maybe a dinner cruise would seal the deal :)
