Does anybody know anything about this accommodation?

We are going to be in Kauai in June, for my niece%26#39;s wedding. It%26#39;ll be our first time in Hawaii, from England. We are thinking about seeing if we can rent the 2 bed apartment with details on this site - http://www.ohiakai.com/index.html It looks pretty good on the site, although the photos are not too great, but we are slightly concerned that we can%26#39;t locate any feedback or testimonials. Does anybody know it? If not, is there any obvious reason my a rental in Ohia Street in Kapaa should not be OK? Thanks for any opinions expressed.

I hate to offer advice when I have never seen this place but based on the map I am not crazy about the location. It practically backs up to the highway in a very busy part of town. Maybe pzp can drive by today.

I just think there may be much nicer places to stay very close by. Some condos around this area that are nice are Kaha Lani, Wailua Bay, Lae Nani or this house: alohacondos.com/kauai/moana-kai-beach-houses

Are other family members staying in the Kapaa area?

Condo/hotels I like are Islander or Kauai Coast Beach Resort.

Hopefully someone has either stayed there or looked into this rental and give you specific information on it. I would be hesitant to reserve it without testimonials.

Without actually driving by I can say that the rental itself is probably OK. It%26#39;s only about a block off the main road and might be noisy. It%26#39;s not in an area with a lot of residences. The name implies it%26#39;s by the beach; it%26#39;s not. It%26#39;s about 3 blocks to a non-swimming beach, across the main road, and there may or may not be public beach access right there.

For $90 US/night it may be OK, but you may be able to do better in that price range, especially if you can spend a little more. You need to book soon, as June is a popular month to be here.

It looks like the place is right across the street from the Pono kai Resort, so you may want to look up the Pono Kai on tripadvisor to see what the beaches are like around the resort and what kind of amenities are in the area within walking distance. I know old Kapaa town is definitely easy walking distance from there, not sure about the southern part of Kapaa. I usually like staying at resort properties when on Kauai but that looks like a neat alternative at a good price. If you do choose to go there, be sure to take photos and post your comments, photos, and feedback on Tripadvisor; heck, if your reviews are positive I might stay there a couple nights on my next trip to Kauai.

Yes, the place is more or less across from Pono Kai. You%26#39;re going to have road noise as do the Pono Kai units nearest the road. The beach is not swimmable; most east-side beaches are not due to dangerous ocean currents.

The accommodation itself may be fine; personally, I%26#39;d look farther and be prepared to go a bit higher.

I%26#39;ll try to drive by the place today.

I drove by this afternoon. The accommodations themselves look OK from the outside. Your view will be of high-tension wires and transformers, the back of the LDS chapel, and a chain-link-fenced area that looks sort of like a county storage yard. There will definitely be some road noise.

All that aside, if you%26#39;re not planning to be ';home'; much and the rate is good, I%26#39;d go for it. The pictures of the interior look nice enough.

Thanks very much for your responses. I%26#39;m really grateful, especially to pzp for putting himself out. We clearly need to decide soon and if we go for it we%26#39;ll post something back to this forum. Thanks again.

Nick
