Whats the difference in view, ambience etc? If you only had time to vist one of these two restaurants which one would it be?
Dukes or Hula GrillWhere would I go? Dukes. Why do you ask? Chuck...
Dukes or Hula GrillHula grill is much more quiet and more upscale, but not too upscale, Dukes is somewhat of a zoo. Hula Grill is also more expensive. With both places the table location makes all the difference, reserve at least 2 weeks in advance and request a rail table. It will get you in one of the 2 outside rows.
I would go to Duke%26#39;s for a late lunch. Lunch is their best meal. I%26#39;ve never been impressed with Hula Grill for the price they extract, I%26#39;d rather do dinner atthe hau Tree Lanai.
If you don%26#39;t mind waiting for a table, try the Barefoot Bar at Dukes. It%26#39;s on the left as you walk in. The bar menu is a lot cheaper than the restaurant. But you cannot reserve a table in advance nor is there a waiting list for a table. It%26#39;s a case of first in best dressed. Sunday nights are the busiest.
I would have to pick Dukes, it is a great lively atmosphere and excellent food. I love their Prime Teriyaki Sirloin and dont forget the Hula Pie - Yum !!
Views: they are in the same building, Dukes on the ground floor %26amp; Hula Grill on the first floor. A table overlooking Waikiki Beach at either will give you wonderful views.
Remember that these restaurants are owned by the same company and have some common menu features.
Duke%26#39;s is HOT and noisy. Low ceilings contribute to both. If you must go there, go early evening (5:00 ish) and ask for a table at the rail. You must make reservations ... or you%26#39;ll be sorry. Good salad bar. Avoid Saturday.
Hula Grill is much cooler, quieter, more gracious. I%26#39;m not sure that they are more expensive than Duke%26#39;s. Ask for a table on the patio/balcony. Again - reservations.
Both have excellent food. Both have great views. The breakfasts at Hula Grill are wonderful and reasonably priced. Duke%26#39;s has a breakfast buffet that gets kinda crazy.
Duke%26#39;s Barefoot Bar has seating on the beach ... well not ON the beach, but down at the beach. A varied menu - yummy. Great burgers. I highly recommend it ... but not on Saturdays.

You can see both menus on-line.
Both places are great and you can%26#39;t go wrong either way you choose! I think people say that Hula Grill is more ';upscale'; only because the bar down at Duke%26#39;s is bigger and carries a lot more noise through to the restaurant part. I guess I never noticed a huge difference in price. Beachside seating at both places are great. One note: Hula Grill is probably a little less busy.
