Stay at Ilikai and use HHV beach?

We need a 2Br/2B for a week in Feb and don%26#39;t want to spend HHV-level money for a suite that, according to the reviews, may not be a good value, and that we will only use for sleeping. Our kids are 7%26amp;10. We%26#39;ll spend 1/2 the time on the beach and the other 1/2 around the city.

Are there any problems with staying at Ilikai and using HHV beach? The walk appears to be quite short. Is this a good idea? And, if not the Ilikai, what other property? Many thanks!

All beaches in Hawaii are public. Whether it sits in front of a hotel or a private home, you can use it!!

I%26#39;d avoid the Ilikai hotel entirely (not to be confused with the Ilikai Marina which is a separate property entirely). There are many resorts offering deals right now that you should look into (ie Resortquest, Castle, Ohana/Outrigger, etc).

Some of the problems currently affecting the Ilikai are: issues between the building owner and the individual unit owners, issues between the building owner and the employees, slow/non-working elevators, extremely small swimming pool (the larger pool had been sold off to the adjacent property), expensive valet parking (the numbers of free parking spaces at the marina have been reduced).

In general, it is just not good value for your money at the moment... unless of course, you are getting it for free then ignore my complaints :)

PS the previous poster has it correct, all beaches in Hawaii are free and open to the public except for some stretches adjacent to the military bases.

Hi - we are travelling in July and have two kids (9 and 11) Will be interested to hear where you decide to stay - I have been looking at the Waikiki Banyan, but we%26#39;d really prefer 2Br, but everything looks so expensive (bad exchange rate for us). Am hoping there will be lots of deals coming up!

we stayed at the ilikai in november and absolutely loved it. the condo we had was awesome and what a view we had..we also hung out at hhv but we also walked down to the outrigger every day too....nice walk
