Looking for review of Kihei Surfside 102

I posted previously about Kihei surfside 211. But I think I have found a better unit at a better price. Kihei Surfside 102 has open dates that just fit what we are lookng for and the owner has offered us a good deal. We are leaning toward booking it provided the owner accepts credits cards (just emailed asking about that).

Please let me know if you have had any experience with this unit. It is ground floor, the second unit from the ocean. There is a listing for it on aaoceanfront.com.

This seems like a good match for our preferences and budget. But I want check to see if anyone has experience staying at this unit first. Any information would be appreciated.

stray chicken - while I have not stayed at that unit or property, I do know it is in a great location. I took a looksee through aaoceanfront and see why you like it - if you do stay there please post a review upon your return so that others can share in your experience.

If everything works out and we end up staying at this unit we would be glad to post a review. The interaction with the owner has been good so far. She has agreed to let me use paypal which enables me to use a credit card. As long as the unit is clean, I think will be happy. I like the first floor location and how close it is to the ocean. She hasn%26#39;t layed out the term yet. So we are waiting on that.

hi there... i have not stayed in 102 but have stayed at the surfside many times.. it%26#39;s a very nice complex.. the beach behind the surfside is beautiful.. check out Maui Unrevealed for an arial shot,, I%26#39;d recommend the surfside.. great for kids too!

I put $200 down and am confirmed for the condo. It took awhile to do this first because I lost my phone and internet at home, then the owner had to go out of town for a week, and finally I lost my electricity due to an ice storm and it is still out.

The owner had been good to work when we have made contact. I was a little paranoid at first, so I called someone from their apartment owners association who lives on Maui. He gave a good personal reference for her and said the condo is in a good location and had been remodeled sometime recently (I don%26#39;t know how recently).

Wow it is now less than 100 days until our trip. I will post a review when we return.

Hi! We stay in 102 everytime we go and love the unit. It%26#39;s right on the water and has spectacular views to the ocean and the turtles cruising around.

Cons: The bedroom is right next to the parking lot and since the unit doesn%26#39;t have A/C you have to leave the mini windows open near the ceiling for breeze- so you hear the cars and people talking sometimes early/late. They do have quiet hour at 10pm- but sometimes people forget. Another con is that the kitchen utensils for cooking are really old- some worthless and rusty and need replaced (we just stayed there in Dec.08). I made a comment to the booking agent, so hopefully they do something about that.

Pros: The kitchen is newly remodeled (aside for the old utensils %26amp; pots and pans) and is in good shape. The patio area is larger than other units and you can hang outside there during the day and enjoy the views. It%26#39;s a wonderful short walk to the bbq grills %26amp; pool. Also- the lawn is great and amazing. We usually bring a frisbee and play out there a bit- then end up crashed in a lawn chair with a good book under a palm tree. Another MARVELOUS thing about the Surfside is the location. You can walk to Keawakapu Beach in the morning and walk back for lunch! Or you can walk to the end of Keawakapu and catch the boardwalk all the way down to the end of Wailea (4 miles round trip). Be sure to bring shoes you can slide on after you wash your feet in the showers at Ulua Beach. You are also very close to the restaurant Sorrentos on the Beach, which serves up gourmet food with great views. Quite frankly, food pulled fresh off the bbq grill served oceanside from your patio beats most restaurants in town.

Be sure to feed the Grey Francolins %26amp; other birds- they are very friendly and come right up to the porch. The guy next door is really nice- his name is Gary and he%26#39;s a resident. He appreciates getting to know the travellers and was SO grateful for our leftover fridge contents when we left. Food is expensive there!

Have a fabulous trip!

Thanks for your review. I feel like I know so much more about the unit we are renting. It makes make look forward to the trip even more! The walk all the way down to Wailea sounds really appealing.

I will report back on the kitchen utentils when we return. Hopefully, they listened to your input. It seems like that would be a minor upgrade that would be relatively inexpensive.

Were there any beach goodies in the the unit? Beach towels, cooler, boggie board, etc. Knowing this would be helpful.

Counting down - 60 days until we leave!

Hi again,

It changes every time we go. The last time there (2 months ago) were 2 beach chairs, 1 beach umbrella, a few beach toys (nerf football, paddle balls, etc) and a tiny lunch sized cooler. This last time there were also blue ice packs left in the freezer! Usually this unit supplies salt and pepper for the BBQ and sometimes seasoned pepper for grilling.

One thing I forgot to mention is that there is a sleeper sofa in the living area, so if the noise of the parking area bothers you- you can be lulled by the ocean in the main room. The sleeper sofa isn%26#39;t very comfy, but after a full day of playing in water or exploring- we usually sleep well.

Every night as the sun sets into the ocean a group of men gathers out on the lawn to blow the conch shells. It%26#39;s sort of a ceremony done nightly by whomever is visiting who knows how to play. Most folks gather out by the BBQ grills with a glass of wine to watch the sunset, visit and listen to the shells. It%26#39;s really a treat. There is something so peaceful about the Surfside- it%26#39;s an older unit, but it really grows on you. And Maui can%26#39;t be beat. The music, the culture, the adventure the people- great choice!

You can watch the sunset right from the unit too, if you choose.

I forgot to mention that Gary is in 103 to the unit%26#39;s right.

Is this your first time to Maui? We try to go every year. One tip- if you get the chance to go to Warren and Annabelles Magic Show in Lahaina- you%26#39;ll laugh until your sides hurt. It%26#39;s part comedy- part amazing magic tricks. Highly recommended for a fun evening.

I wish you a really wonderful trip- the countdown is on!

Thanks again for the info. Yes, this is our first time to Hawaii. We take a trip every May to celebrate our anniversary (will be 4th this year). The last few trips have been to national parks out west. We debated going to Alaska this year. But we really wanted to go somewhere warm. It has been a colder than normal winter here. SO I know we will be happy with our decision.

Hi

We are currently at #102. Arrived Thursday 3/12 and leave 3/23. Weather has been chilly. Some rain today.

This is our 3rd stay in this unit and we LOVE it.

The location cannot be beat!

We watch whales spout and breach each afternoon. We have not seen any turtles this year but hope to before we leave.

Aloha

ps

The utensils are not upgraded but we make do : )

Thanks for the post. Hope you have a great time a post a full report when you get back. I love reading those. 47 days to go.
