Update From Suggestions Please.....previous post.

Hi All

Wanted to give you an update. We decided to stay in the Coconut Cottage BnB in Pahoa after finding it in a book and reading the reviews on TA. We stayed outside the park area last trip in a grat BnB that had a candlelight breakfast so decided to try something new. Not far from the viewing platforms and boat trip to the lava flows (provided it is safe).

Mumpsimus While I was thinking of staying at the KVR or the other higher end properties I could not see spending that money after traveling 6 weeks and I took my chances on PL. Was thrilled that we were aple to get the Hapuna for $110 per night. The best we could get at the Mauna La...was 300 with tax.

So we are pleased since this is the hotel I preferred and hoped would come up on PL over the others that had in the past.

Thanks for your help. Will keep you posted as we go along. We will be in Hawaii the week of July 10th and in Maui 2 weeks before that. Will be in Tahiti in between.

Sue

I sincerely hope you research the ';boat trip to the lava'; which is nowhere near safe... You will be subjected to a whole slew of very toxic gas... not to mention inhale micro volcanic glass in the air...

There is a reason no one in 25 years has ever even dreamed of... With high unemployment ( 10+%) some crazies are attempting anything..... to make money.

Make sure you get the exact driving directions to the B%26amp;B since the Google Maps location shown is way off. (It%26#39;s in Leilani Estates and not in Pahoa, though it%26#39;s in the Pahoa area.) I have never stayed at Coconut Cottage but I know the place, it%26#39;s just a few blocks from my second home in Leilani Estates. You will like it there, it%26#39;s a nice area. (Make sure to visit the Makuu Market if you are there on a Sunday, and to have dinner at Paolo%26#39;s in Pahoa!)

Pono page has some useful info:

Thank you all. I will read more about the boat trip and certainly will not attempt to do something if it is not safe. We have seen the flow from a helicopter a few years ago and would not attempt to venture out if it is not safe.

Thank you...I will check further. If you have any further info let me know.

Hi,

We just stayed at the Coconut Cottage last week. It was a wonderful experience and a very welcome interlude between statying at the mega reosrts in Keahou and Honolulu.
