Condo in Waikoloa- Kid Friendly, Walk to Beach?

I would like to rent a condo this summer in the Waikoloa area. I have two children 3 and 7 so I would like it to be kid friendly and have a nice pool. I would also like to be able to walk to the beach - so about a 10 min max walk. I don%26#39;t want to pay more than $200 a night. The Kolea looks nice but not sure I can get a Condo there for around $200 (although willing to book at the last minute-so maybe). Any other Condo Suggestions? The Fairway Villas and Vista Waikoloa might be options but can we walk to the beach from there or is it a long walk? Thanks!

For $200 You cant get more than a 1 bed.... The Shores is the only one that has them.... Vstas all 2+

These are closest to A bay...about a 15 min walk... Kolea a 2 min Fairways....20 min Hilton time share...30 min

Dear Playita:

Thinking a little out of the box Aaah the Views B%26amp;B 15 minutes up the hill (west Waimea) prolly under $200 for the 3 of you. Maybe the Dream Room. Tree top suite maybe but lots of steps/stairs for kids.

Very kids friendly cause they have two little boys of their own :) Think they even have toys and kid videos in the breakfast room to borrow.

Downsides: Def. not a walk to the beach and avoid rush hour going up hill.

Upsides: Really nice breakfast buffet and Waimea has lots of shopping and groceries and restaurant possibilities. They have tons of beach stuff to borrow like towels, matts, coolers as well. Plus good central spot for other activities and road trips. Def. cooler up there if weather is sunny vs. hot lava fields.

Tell them Teddy from Denver says hey, TheodoreJay

Ted.....how fast do you drive?

My millage shows its 10 miles from A bay to just the hiway junction and another 10 to the B%26amp;B Thats 20 miles...

Considering the first 10 is 45-55 and the second half is a steep twisty mt 2 lane road 35-45..... as it climbs 2200 ft in 10 miles

It would take speeds of 80 to 100 to make the 15 min according to my calculations..... youd have to average 90 mph... on a 35 mph curves

I rented over Christmas/New Years at Fairway Villas for $129/night on www.vrbo.com. I thought it was a great place to be. It was about a 15 minute walk to the beach. We drove and parked in the free public beach lot next to Kolea and it was as close as you could get to the beach, about 2 minutes. It was nice because of one of us wanted to walk back early it was an easy walk. From my personal experience I would highly recommend the Fairway Villas as a fabulous bargain.

If you are willing to give up on the walk, Colony Villas are also going very very cheap now. There are a lot of them and they are fairly new.

Any condo complex other than Kolea will be a bit of a hike to A%26#39; Bay. There are some condos at Kolea which approach $200/night. Vista/Shores/Fairway/Beach condos will be walkable to the beach with about a 10-15 minute walk. Hali%26#39;i Kai has the best pool, but it%26#39;s not really walkable to the beach.

We%26#39;ve stayed both at the Fairway Villas and the Vistas. Both are a 10 to 15 minute walk to beach. You can get 2 bedrooms at both locations for under $200 a night. I really liked the unit we had at the Fairways but overall I think if I went back I%26#39;d stay at the Vistas. The Vista pool is bigger.

Here%26#39;s 2 companies to try.

I would not be happy in a B%26amp;B with younger children for a prolonged stay of more than 2 nights. I would really want a 2 bedroom place so that everyone had a little area to call their own. Plus when the children go to bed the adults need to have space to have a life.

While ideally a 10 minute walk to the beach would work for a 3 and 7 year old, in the summer in Hawaii I have to wonder if even 10 minutes might be too long, especially walking home.. it is hot here in the summer, and little ones really get dehydrated fast. You may end up driving anyway..

We stayed at the ResortQuest Waikoloa and loved it. It%26#39;s not on the beach though. We really didn%26#39;t have time to go to the beach so I%26#39;m not sure how far away the beach was although some reviews say they%26#39;re walking distance. It felt more like a house then a condo. It was definitely one of the nicer condo%26#39;s I%26#39;ve stayed in. We had to chuckle at the ad...';a view of the golf course can be as exhilerating as a view of the ocean!'; ..hahaha right. As for kids..We had just spent a week on Kauai when arriving here and noticed lots of kids for the first time. They were all over the King and Queen shopping areas.

The 10 minute walk is an easy one. We did it with our daughter when she was almost 2 and when she was almost 3.

Oh, I cheap umbrella stroller could come in handy for the 3 year old if they%26#39;re feeling lazy.
