Maui Itinerary May 1-8

Down to three days! We will be in Maui for one week beginning on Friday. My husband and I have never been to Hawaii. I have a rough itinerary but want to kept some flexibility. I have really enjoyed reading this board as week count down to our trip. Here is our itineary What do you think?

May 1 - Friday Travel to Hawaii. Leaving from Cincinnati, Oh and connecting through Salt Lake City (Delta 1197). Flight arrival at 2:30. Pick up convertible with National. Drive to pick up keys at AAOceanfront in Kihei and check into Kihei Surfside. Get dinner and some groceries in Kihei.

May 2 - Saturday - Think we may have to do road to Hana on this day if we are going to go all the way to Kipahulu. Found a article about road closure due to bridge replacement at Paihi for 26 days starting May 4 (www.co.maui.hi.us/CivicAlerts.asp?AID=728). Does this keep motorist from driving the Road to Hana all the way to the national park? We really want to hike the Pipwai Trail.

May 3 - Reservations for 7:00 AM Kaanapali Zipline tour. Afterward, if we aren%26#39;t too dirty we might check out Lahaina and the rest of West Maui.

May 4 - Reservations for 9:00 AM Cloud Forest Hike at Haleakala National Park near Hosmer Grove. This is the free hike led by rangers or naturalists. We may elect drive up early to see the sunrise.

May 5 - Beach time? Or take day trip to see Volcano National Park on Big Island. Doing it on our own we can get airfare and car rental for ~$300 total for two people. An other idea is a whale watching cruise. Is it worth it this late in season?

May 6 - Beach time? Explore South Maui. Any tours leave from Kihei Boat Ramp. We might look into that since we can walk from our condo. Maybe a kayak/snorkel trip

May 7 - Wedding Anniversary / Beach and Relaxing

May 8 - Check our of condo early morning. 7:45 AM flight to Oahu with Hawaiin Airlines. Spent remaining two nights at Sheraton Waikiki. Fly back to Cincinnai on May 10 at 5:15 (NW 624) via Minnesapolis

Would love any comments and suggestions.

Maui Itinerary May 1-8

Sunday after the zipline trip you will drive back right by the Craft and gift fair at the Lahaina Civic Center from 9 til 4. If you are into that. It is held about twice a month. Ideas for Oahu

If you like architecture then prebook the Doris Duke house tour through the Honolulu Academy of Arts.

Dinner in Waikiki right behind your hotel at The Top of Waikiki revolving restaurant. True retro classic that get voted tops by residents.

Maui Itinerary May 1-8

According to the link you provided, from May 4 for the 21 days you won%26#39;t be able to get to the National Park %26amp; Ohe%26#39;o Gulch where Pipiwai trail starts. So Saturday would be a good day.

Here%26#39;s a map showing where Paihi Bridge (Paihi Gulch %26amp; Paihi Falls) is. It is just a couple miles north of the National Park.

You can magnify the map %26amp; move it around.

Welcome to Maui..almost there.

May 3 starts early..suggestion..pack your swim suit and a change of clothes. After your zip enjoy a some beach time at Kapalua Bay. You can shower off and change clothes (public restrooms/showerpost). Then enjoy Lahaina (Banyan Tree). Many places for late breakfast/lunch.

May 5..I%26#39;d rethink going to B I. Might want to save for another time. You have packed so much into the first few days, take time to enjoy the south side beaches and catch your breath.

As always I second Barefoot! Unless you have a week of ';down-time'; when you get home! Forget the BI trip...gives you another reason to come back!

We will skip Big Island. We might try to reschedule the zipline for Wednesday. Then we have either Saturday or Sunday to drive the road to Hana. So there is less planned right at the beginning of the trip. Thanks!

straychicken - Looks good, and I agree with dropping the BI trip - unless you are particularly a person who likes to be on the go. With your long flights, already scheduled to split the stay on Oahu, sounds too much. There are companies the do fly-overs, without the hassle of airport security, or cars - but I suggest saving BI for next trip and then making it your main focus.

Happy Anniversary and have a wonderful trip.
