First Time to Hawaii staying at Hyatt in Maui

We are going to Maui later this month. This is our first time to Hawaii. Does anyone know if there are any ATM machines in the hotel? If not how close is the nearest one(walking distance). How much is an average meal at the hotel? Are we better off eating outside of the hotel? I have heard that eating in Maui is pricy. Should we be bringing alot of snacks from home to munch on? About packing should we bring our own beach/pool towels or are those provided by hotel ';free of charge';. Does anyone know what kind of weather they have in January? Any advise will be great.

Contact the hotel about the ATM. My guess is that they have one on site, given the size of the hotel (very large). Yes, food at the Hyatt is expensive - but you can walk down to Whaler%26#39;s Village (10 - 15 minutes on the paved beach path) for much more reasonable choices. Lahaina (about 5 miles south) has many other choices. I certainly would NOT bring snacks from home, as you will most likely encounter issues with taking them on the plane or taking food into Hawaii. Besides, there is no need to. Lahaina, which you will pass on your way to Ka%26#39;anapali has a Safeway grocery store store. It%26#39;s a good place to stock up on snacks/water/drinks and such. It%26#39;s in the Cannery Mall, and there is a Long%26#39;s Drug Store there - also good for snacks. And there is an ABC Store in Whaler%26#39;s Village. No, you don%26#39;t have to pack beach towels - but contact the Hyatt about their towel policies. (Some hotels are getting tighter ...).

First Time to Hawaii staying at Hyatt in Maui

Hi,

We stayed at the Hyatt Maui in August %26#39;08 and really enjoyed our stay. I didn%26#39;t notice any ATM machines but as mentioned above it might be best to phone the hotel. As for the towels, you will be given a slip of paper on check in that you will be asked to show when picking up towels for the pool or beach, they will also give you a coloured wristband that shows you are a guest at the hotel for use of the pools and slide. All of this is done at the pool desk down by the pool.

As for snacks and drinks we bought ours from the ABC store at Whalers Village a short walk down the beachwalk or you can catch the free Trolley Bus. The rooms have a stocked bar fridge as well as an empty fridge so you can store your own.

We found the prices at the ABC a lot cheaper than what we are used to at home so were happy shopping there but Lahaina and the Cannery Mall are not far away by bus.

We ate out of the hotel most of the time, there are good restaurants at Whalers Village and in Lahaina, our favorites were the Hula Bar and Grill in the sand at Whalers and Longboards along the beachwalk heading back towards the Hyatt.

I don%26#39;t remember being shocked by the prices, we actually found things in general to be cheaper than what we pay here in Sydney so I guess it depends on what you are used to.

Hope you have a great holiday - we did!

I don%26#39;t remember if the hotel has an ATM machine, but I know Whaler%26#39;s Village has one by the food court.

Yes the hotel will be expensive to eat at and you wouldn%26#39;t want to eat every meal there anyway%26#39;

I assume you are getting a car and if you had not planned on it, you should. It will make getting to the hotel from the airport easier (and cheaper) and make getting to restaurants in different locations (Lahaina, Napili, Kahana, etc.) possible.

As others have noted, don%26#39;t pack snacks there are a couple of supermarkets in Lahaina (Safeway %26amp; Foodland I think) and an ABC Store in Whaler%26#39;s Village.

The hotel will provide beach %26amp; pool towels for you.

The Hyatt is a great property and you should have a blast.

Amber, not sure when you are going but I%26#39;m heading out to the Hyatt in about 32 hours, staying for a week. I%26#39;ll have my laptop with me and let you know if and where the ATM%26#39;s are at the hotel on Wednesday.

Have fun.

Thanks everyone for the info.

Kozdude- thank you for the offer. Yes if you have a chance let me know if you see any ATM%26#39;s. We leave on January 12th.. 5 more sleeps.

I have another question, how much is good to tip the maid? We don%26#39;t want to be too cheap or too generous(if there is such a thing).

For a hotel like the Hyatt, $5 a night for the maid is about right. More or less depending on service performed. Have fun!
