FYI- Priceline car rental bid accepted February

Aloha,

For those of you interested in car rental mid Feb.

Have reserved with costco/alamo for Feb 12th-26h (15 days total) for a total of $363 US ($20)for a compact (additional driver included). Have not found anything cheaper in the last few months, and the same deal with costco is sitting at over $100 more right now.

Decided to go for it and make a bid on priceline.

Bid on a mid-size for $10/day, rejected

Bid on a SUV for $12/day, rejected

Bid on a compact for $11/day, accepted. Total all in (taxes/fees) was $268, with National.

Offered to upgrade to mid-size for $13 and decided to go with that. Total $300.

We will probably have to pay for an additional driver if we go that route. Can join emerald club for free, and then we get additional driver for free I think?

Does anyone know if National has an additional driver fee cap on Maui, or if spouses drive for free?

Pretty happy with the savings. Fingers crossed it all works out.

Good for you! I am in the same position now that you were in before. I had gotten a price through Costco/

Alamo a week ago, but didn%26#39;t go ahead and book it. I decided to book yesterday and the price has gone up by about $100. The Costco price that I found a week ago was the cheapest I could find.

I have been trying Priceline for a compact, and an SUV (two different rentals) but haven%26#39;t been successful yet. I keep doing $12 for a compact and $23 for an SUV. Both keep getting rejected.

Our trip is in April. Maybe I am too early for Priceline?

Hey MummaS... Congrats! Looks like a great deal. We are spending 7 days in Maui Feb 24-Mar 3, and I wasnt sure where to got the Car Rental for National via Priceline/Costco? from. Can you let me know how you actually booked this? Is there a specific URL? I need a compact car (2 adults + 2 kids), or a convertible since we doing the Rd to Hana. #13 a day sounds pretty good for 7 days!. I made a tentative (can cancel) booking for a compact via discounthawaiicarrental.com for a week that priced at $188 (all inclusive).

thanks! feeling good about it. maybe it is the timeline...the feb, as opposed to april. keep trying!

skin... u can look at costco.com, go to travel and then car rentals. we usually booked with alamo thru costco. u make a booking if u like the price, and then go back and check frequently to see if the price has dropped (u don%26#39;t have to pay with the booking).

priceline is completely different. u can look at the set prices for car rental thru priceline or u can make a bid for a car. if u do this, u do it without knowing which of the car rental agencies u will get until after u win. u also have to pay, and it is final...so if your trip changes, etc. u are out of luck. we decided to go for it. read the guidelines at priceline.com to learn how to bid, etc. perhaps use the costco site as a baseline, bid under that price. not sure about convertible. i know there was a deal on convertibles that everyone had been talking about here previously, think maybe thru alamo. u will have to do a search on here for that.

good luck!

Just got back from Maui recently and got a convertible via Piceline for $20 ($24ish after taxes/fees). Insanely good deal in my opinion (brand new Sebring via Alamo).

Went with the gas option, when I came back with more fuel than I intended (close to half tank) I jokingly said ';I screwed up, I%26#39;m supposed to bring it back on fumes. You%26#39;ll credit me for that won%26#39;t you';

I was kidding and he knew it. Told me to hang on a sec and gave me $20 credit. Alamo isn%26#39;t all bad! ;-)

Thanks for the current Priceline info! We always use Priceline but have the ALamo convertible deal booked for our upcoming February trip...I can always cancel the existing reservation with Alamo if I can get a better deal with Priceline...we tried back about two months ago and couldn%26#39;t get a decent price accepted...will try soon and post results...

Lilly - I booked a convertible directly off of Alamo as well - ~$180 per week +$50 for taxes etc - total ~$230 a week. Not bad i thought. Not as good as the priceline total price of 170 per week tho :) Was your Alamo price about that as well?

I also have a convertible on hold for February..with the $179 deal. Total @ $230 with taxes ... plus I also have a $25 coupon tied into the reservation on top of that which I am not sure they will honor with the special sale price. If they take the coupon, then my total will be about $205 after taxes. I think I entered $20 per day for Priceline and the total would have been $205 with taxes if my price in accepted.

I am not sure if Alamo will honor the $25 off weekly coupon.... I have been considering just bidding and try to lock in the $205 price so I know I will pay it, but I also don%26#39;t want to pay extra for another driver. Both my husband and I want to take turns driving. If I have to pay any extra fees, then it won%26#39;t be worth it to do Priceline.

I also want to have a Sebring because we have a teenager in the back seat. There is a possibility another car rental company will accept the price and some use Mustangs... less room for us.

LvtoLv - for $230 all inclusive for a week - it looks like we have a good deal via the Alamo website. Like you said, with Priceline - we may be able to get another $50 off but risk not getting a Sebring, and have to pay for 2nd driver - plus the need to pay upfront.

Question - how did you get the extra $25 coupon? I realize that Alamo may or may not accept that on top of the HIPROMO code, but it is still worth trying....

The $25 coupon is on their website, first page... a few lines below the link for Hawaii specials.

Coupon Code is: Coupon Code: AD6974JDM

It works with the HIPROMO contract id code.... whether their honor it or not depends.... the system took it but we will see what they say at the counter!

LvtoLv: Regarding the coupon code, sorry I am being an absolute pain here, but cant seem to find it on the website (to print it out). Is there any chance you can give me the actual URL?
