Family of 5 with Teenagers!!

I am in the process of planning a 12-14 day trip which I would like to include the Big Island and Maui and maybe 2 days in Oahu to see Pearl Harbor. I think maybe we will shoot for 5 days each in Maui and the Big Island. We are traveling from the Midwest so the 12-14 factors in travel time. Due to having 5 people we probably will need to stay in a condo and the budget will probably only allow one of the condos to be beachfront. I am looking for any suggestions of the best beachfront properties and any accommodation suggestions. We want to veg at least a couple days. Thanks for you help.

Help anyone?

ok Scottygirl - my first response is - budget? I know everyone has one, but they vary widely!

If your budget is truly tight I will add that staying at least seven days on any one island will save you much $$ on car rental, could get you better rates on lodging as well.

What are your interests aside from a place to stay?

What time of year?

Thanks for replying. Budget is max $10,000. $4,000 in airfare alone. We would like to have some beach time, surfing lessons for the kids, ziplining for everyone except hubby who is too chicken. Eat breakfast at condo and once a day either dinner or lunch eat at a restaurant. A few souvenirs.

oops, we have to go in July due too the fact that all my kids are jocks and that is the only time we get a break!!

you have an easy choice on the Big Island there is only one beachfront condo on the whole island....Kolea.... In July...proably about $500 a night for a 2 bed. Its in Waiakoloa Beach resort.

That why I think our beachfront will have to be in Maui as $500 a night is too much. Thanks. Any other suggestions for the Big Island?

Budget and time frame are doable, tight with 6000 for lodging, meals, activities, and car - but if you have three teens you can handle a challenge.

On Maui I would advise you to first determine whether you want West Maui or South Maui. While it is not set in stone, overall Kihei lodgings tend to be a bit less expensive - there are some good ones in West Maui that won%26#39;t require your firstborn to cover the cost. Either area has good beaches, near shopping and reasonable cost eateries. Kaanapali is more resort feel, but there is a plethora of choices for activities and food. past there is Kahana and although the beaches aren%26#39;t as nice it is close proximity to good ones and you can find some really good oceanfront places. Kihei is more %26#39;beach town%26#39;. It%26#39;s a personal choice - I like them both for different reasons. Some folks have strong preferences towards one area or another.

If beach is your priority on BI then check out the Waikoloa Beach condos that are set back from A-bay. OutRigger and ResortQuest offer a few there. also check Kailua-Kona where lodging tends to be less expensive -

www.wizardpub.com has info on lodgings that is quite handy (although I do not like much of the information within the books) providing you aerial views and brief summaries of properties. Visit there and look in the waikoloa area, then peruse the Maui page and looksee at the general areas. There are places where you can get a 2bdrm on the beach for as little or as much as you want to spend. Rates posted on those pages are not the best you can do though - many properties have cut prices, offering nights free or specials and the aerial view/review pages link you to the main page for each property. It%26#39;ll get you started!
