Royal Lahaina Resort VS Kaanapali Beach Hotel

Hey Guys,

I posted this question buring in another post on the Lahaina forum earlier but I have decided to put it on its own for more visibility (so please forgive me those of you who venture accross it more than once.

My wife and I (late 20%26#39;s) will be visiting Maui for the first time and for the locations/budget, etc it seems like the two we are torn between are Royal Lahaina and Kaanapali Beach Hotel. The two seem to be not far from each other and the prices seem similar and both may be into contructions (soon or ongoing).

However...given all of that, which one would you guys recommend for a 6 night stay at the End of February.

Thanks in advance.

Royal Lahaina Resort VS Kaanapali Beach Hotel

The Ka%26#39;anapali Beach Hotel has a great location. great stretch of beach and accesses the paved beach walk to Whaler%26#39;s Village (about 5 minutes!) for shops and restaurants. The other resorts along that stretch are fun to explore. It%26#39;s easy to catch a shuttle to Lahaina - or drive ... about 10 minutes away.

Royal Lahaina Resort VS Kaanapali Beach Hotel

I did respond to your post on the other thread, but as you say it is somewhat buried now. So...

My suggestion would be KBH - it is reputed to be ';The Most Hawaiian Hotel'; and we love it. I also prefer the location. While I have not stayed at Royal Lahaina, we did walk the property and prior to our stay at KBH had considered it - we were absolutely pleased with our decision to stay at Kaanapali Beach Hotel.

Have stayed at both Royal Lahaina %26amp; KBH. Royal Lahaina once, KBH 8+ and counting. That should answer your question! KBH main positive for us is location. You can walk to other hotels, several restaurants %26amp; shopping in 5 minutes or less. KBH has great return guest upgrades. Definitely not for you if you want marble counters in bathrooms, waiters bringing you drinks as you lounge by the pool or active night life. If, however, you want superior location, clean rooms, moderate prices %26amp; friendly staff then KBH is for you.

Forgot to add - Royal Lahaina is not an easy walk to the shops %26amp; restaurants of Kaanapali Beach. On the map it looks close but it is at least a 30 minute walk.

KBH hands down! Our airline canceled our flight a few yrs ago - direct spokane to Maui and we lost our condo reservation. The airline put us up in a ';condo'; at the Royal Lahaina. I can%26#39;t begin to tell you how many problems we had from check in till departure. The place was an absolute dump and the staff even worse. I have never stayed at KBH but close friends of ours whom we travel w/ to Maui for kids vacations have nothing but good to say about it. In appearance KBH looks much better. Perhaps Royal Lahaina has cleaned up but last time we were there it looked like a resort that was beautiful in the 70%26#39;s and someone forgot to do anything w it since then.

Thanks for all of the responses guys...it looks like KBH is gonna be it for us.

LesRoses I did see your answer on the other forum before I got to this one so thanks again for following up.
