1 activity in January

Hi everyone.

Husband and I are taking a belated honeymoon (had to save up) to Kauai and we leave tomorrow. I%26#39;ve been reading a lot of the posts and there seem so many good possible activities, but we can only really afford 1 or two. So, experts, if you had to narrow it down to one trip/activity what would you chose? Keep in mind this trip is this upcoming week (weather/seaswell wise).

Also any romantic ideas are greatly appreciated. Thanks!

The best way to see the entire island and get a great over view is a helicopter trip. We always recommend doing this early in the trip and then use the rest of your time exploring by car. We really like Inter-Island helcopters. Check out previous discussions on the forum regarding helicopters.

My only precaution on this advise is that I heard there were a lot of low clouds and limited visibility. But that was last week so be mindful of the weather.

A trip along the Napili Coast may not be the best idea this time of year. If you decide to take this route, please check out the ocean conditions before hand. http://www.kauaiexplorer.com/ocean_report/

I personally like Captain Andy%26#39;s. They have a great operation (many reviews posted on the forum).

Lots of great things to do that don%26#39;t cost a dime. Kauai is a very outdoorsy place, hiking trails all over the island. The most famous (and crowded) of these is the Kalalau trail, going the first 2 miles to Hanakapia%26#39;i beach. DON%26#39;T SWIM there, however, much too dangerous. This is not a goal-oriented hike, it%26#39;s the journey, not the destination. The views are breath-taking all the way there and back.

I would not do a NaPali cruise in January, myself. I%26#39;m prone to seasickness, and the North shore seas can be very rough in the winter. And if they are, the tour operators frequently go anyway, and will charge you for the trip if you try to back out at the last minute.

I would definitely choose a helicopter flight for my one activity that wasn%26#39;t free. You see the whole island, including the NaPali coast. If you%26#39;re feeling adventurous, try Birds in Paradise ultralight instead of the helicopter.

Ke%26#39;e beach at sunset can be pretty romantic. Ke%26#39;e beach is at the end of the road on the North shore. Parking is hard to come by during the day, but around sunset you should have no problems.

Have fun!

If you can do only one splurge - a pretty big one - do the helicopter. It%26#39;s like nothing you%26#39;ve ever seen before.

My stepdaughter went up last week and had a fabulous tour. Visibility was fine, lots of waterfalls, and they were lucky enough to see whales and a full-circle rainbow.

No reputable company will fly if the weather is too bad.

Oh, definitely the helicopter ride! And if you can add to that, the sunset cruise (Cspt Andy) is very nice and not too expensive.

Romantic - you%26#39;re so going to be in the right place! Just going down to the beach at sunset wherever you are staying is wonderful and you can do it every evening if you like!

Candles and supper on your lanai (Hope you have a condo).

Drive down into Anini beach - and stop in every little pullover on the way in. The views are so beautiful, you can just drink it in. It%26#39;s so lovely to share.

Take (or buy at Walmart) some candle holders to protect a votive from the wind and pack a picnic and wine for Saltponds at sunset. Simple and simply lovely.

A drink on the Terrace of the Sheraton at sunset...there are so many beautiful places and just being there together in gentle evening breezes will be heaven.

Kauai is so beautiful. The romance is built in. You%26#39;ll find special places.

Have a lovely time...and if it rains - well, you%26#39;ll know what to do to fill the time!

Oh!...and play some music by IZ..especially White Sandy Beach and In dis Life....

Thanks so much, everyone. We are ready to make the best of it no matter the weather. But the helicopter does seem the best splurge. Any favorite companies? Frommer%26#39;s seems to love Blue Hawaiian. Thoughts?

I%26#39;ve always sent people to Jack Harter. Never had less than a ';wow.';

BTW, there%26#39;s plenty to do here on a rainy day, if you want. Search the forum for ';rainy days.';
