I want to take my 83 year old mother to Maui in December. She is able to walk but not really far distances and someone needs to take her arm in case she falls. I%26#39;d like to find a condo as there will be 10 of us going either one condo or two that is an upscale type property where the walk from the room to the hotel grounds/pool is not far and where there is a beach steps from the room. Being able to walk to restaurants/shops would also be a big plus.
Help, Best place to stay with 83 year old mother???
Suggest you check out the Westin Kaanapali Resort Villas, you would need a 2 bedroom lockoff and a studio as well for 10 people. It is upscale with shuttles to Whaler%26#39;s Village and Lahaina, right on Kaanapali beach. Very easy if you get ground floor units.
Help, Best place to stay with 83 year old mother???
You might want to check the Kaanapali Ali. It is close to Whaler%26#39;s Village and dining choices and on a nice beach. The units are large.
Actionitems, I%26#39;d suggest you stay in the very nice Kaanapali area! It%26#39;s very tourist friendly and especially nice for the 83 year olds (but not for the 85 year olds).
You can stay in an excellent resort, enjoying great shopping and nightlife with your extended older family, and stroll or crawl up to the shuttle and get on board the free shuttle ride. There is the Whaler%26#39;s Village Shopping area that is special which is including a fossiled whale tooth in the museum.
Grany should have an awesome time in her special ';walker'; when with you on Maui!
caddyshackman, thanks very much for your sarcastic reply.
Action, without trying to be rude I am serious. Can you believe me?
I think the Kaanapali area is great for her. Many of the nice resorts there open right onto the somewhat calm ocean (and waves). There are nice places to eat too. Some others have experience on some condos around Kaanapali. There are several excellent ones to stay. I%26#39;ll let them chime in. Sounds like a large condo is your best bet with 10 or more going.
I hope you find some place to your liking...and I am sorry if I was only rude in my response Action...not intended!
Will she still be 83 in December? God Bless her!
Wailea Beach Villas
Very Upscale newer (under 5 years old)
adjacent to the Shops At Wailea
the smallest unit is 1700 square feet
The largest unit (a villa) is 3100.
All units in the Penthhouses have an elevator,(very helpful for our elder visitors)that take you to your front door....not in the middle of the complex.
The other units there are Villas
large luxury villas
Not cheap but very nice and convinient.
they have an adult pool and a family pool and are located next to the grandWailea, shoips at wailea and Marriott wailea.
Check out Papakea. It%26#39;s older, but beautiful, well maintained gardens. The units are individually owned, so some have been updated, others not (just look carefully).
You can find many on VRBO, I think they are managed by Resortquest.
We rented a very nice %26amp; reasonably priced first floor condo through VRBO. Papakea sits right on the oceanfront, has 2 pools w/gas grills for guest usage.
We loved our evenings sitting at the waterfront w/a bottle of wine, watching for whales and the sunset.
So, do your homework NOW, maybe you can find several units fairly close together
Aloha actionitems,
I agree that the Kaanapali Alii would be just about perfect for your mom. It is a beautiful resort and within very easy and safe walking distance to many restaurants and shops in Whaler%26#39;s Village. I see many seniors walking the paved beach path each time I am there. Even if she decides to just relax in the shade by the pool, the level of activity on the path will keep her entertained. Good luck, hope you find the ';perfect'; accommodations.
Definately the Kaanapali area or the Wailea area. Both have nice walking paths along the beach that will give you easy access.
If you are not worried about being along a path The Mahana is wonderful. Just up the beach from the hub of Kaanapali it is oceanfront. All units. This might be a nice alternative. There are just a few short steps to the beach.
where you gonna put your mother when you are surfing on the BI
