Can do either - wondering which is more spectacular? We cant do the bicycle tour (kids with us) - so we may just drive up to the crater, watch the rise or set an drive down. Still worth it? Any side trips or things to catch in while up there?
Sunrise or Sunset @ Haleakala?
This is another one of those questions that you will get many different opinions on. It%26#39;s like which island do I choose or which luau do I go to? Which snorkel trip is worth my money!!??
I prefer sunrise, but then I%26#39;m a morning person. The sunrising over the mountain, with a golden glow is like no other sight I have ever seen. Even sunset!! It%26#39;s very cold up there so go prepared. It is also best to do the morning after you arrive or close to that when you are still adjusting to the time change. We always like to drive down to the Kula Lodge afterwards for a great breakfast and fantastic view.
Weather will also make a difference on the view you get. It is VERY hard to predict if a cloud bank will obscure your view. It%26#39;s hit or miss any time of day.
Either way, do make the trip. You won%26#39;t regret it.
Sunrise or Sunset @ Haleakala?
Well, the bicycle tour isn%26#39;t everyone%26#39;s cup of tea (to say the least!) so no worries.
Ms. Fuzz gives you good advise ... I would only add that if you sleep in ... STILL go to Haleakala. It%26#39;s magnificent any time of day.
We perfer midday or sunset. From Wailea you will see an afternoon cloud bank, it will look like the top is covered..not always..might just be the ';trade wind clouds'; as I call them. If the sky is clear higher up then head on up. You will break through the clouds (cool sight for the kids) and have a great view of crater. We take a pinic supper and enjoy as sun is setting. Wrap up..it%26#39;s cold and windy. The Underarmor will come in hand to keep the warm.
