Vog on Big Island

My fiance and I were planning to go to big island on May 14th. Anyone suggesting us to change plans due to vog?

Vog on Big Island

There%26#39;s no way to tell what the volcano will do tomorrow, much less 2 weeks from now. Don%26#39;t change plans.

Vog on Big Island

Vog can really affect people with breathing problem

It cs.an be here to day and gone toMaui.

I know of 4 people that moved to the Big Island that had to move away due to VOG related health problems.

but it could be fine.

Last year the vog was a big topic on the forums, many decided to change their plans - many did not. We were amongst those who did not and arrived to find only traces of the VOG - but it would be worse in Kailua Kona, so if you are concerned head up to the Waikoloa Beach/Kohala resort areas.

Last May we stayed a week at Kona Village Resort. While the whole week was an ugly one in Kaila-Kona, we only had one moderately voggie day. In fact the worse vog of the trip was a half day on Oahu waiting for our flight home. It was ugly.

Bill

Konaweb.com has a vog index which tracks the vog in different parts of the island. Generally the vog is minimal in the northern half of the island and down to Hilo on the eastern coast, even if it is bad in Kona.

We were at the volcano and in Kona in February and Ireally didn%26#39;t notice any vog.

We are going May 4th - Is there vog now?

Its terrible in Kona....on a scale of 1 none to 500Severe it ';soared'; to 78..........It was so bad that you could scarsely see 50 miles...

You may suffer from breathing fresh air here.... and have to run a hose from you cars exhaust to your room window for a Co or No2 fix if withdraws start

Lets put it this way , our worst day is better than your best day in the LA Basin, Inland Empire, San Gabriel Valley... Or Valley.. ( for shure)..

If you are staying on the west side, north of the airport that is most always better than south of the airport. You can look at webcams to see how clear the air is.

has a view for Kailua-Kona from above, have to wait thru annoying ad

We just returned from 3 weeks on BI. The only issue I had was that my eyes bothered me sometimes. My husband had no problems. Were my eyes caused by the vog? I have no idea.

Could be vog, could be allergies. I have grass allergies and they are ALWAYS mowing those golf courses!
