I am planning my honeymoon in May, we will be spending the first 3 days in Oahu then will come to Kauai for the next week. We have decided that the North Shore suits us best and I have narrowed it down to Hanalei Bay Resort (Hale Makai Cottage is still a very close, but pricey #2 - very top of our budget).
We plan to spend our time between activities (helicopter, zipline, hiking) and the beach, we want our time at the condo to be relaxing and would like an ocean view. We want a kitchen, prefer to be close to BBQ%26#39;s (not a deal breaker though), and do not mind steps, hills or walking.
With all that being said, any recommendations as to a certain suite with ocean views and a kitchen? Updates are nice, but not a priority. I have been looking for our honeymoon rental for awhile now and have changed my mind several times, but I think I have it right now, just need some help with the perfect suite! We will greatly appreciate any feedback.
Thanks!
HBR Honeymoon suite recommendationHBR help is on the way.....
First of all if you want a ';suite'; they won%26#39;t be close to the barbeques. If you want to be close to the barbeques look at one bedrooms in the 6000, 7000 and 4000 building. The 4000 will give you the best views with 6000 and 7000 next.
Another option is what%26#39;s called ';hotel room'; and that is the second side of the larger one bedroom. They have (usually) mini fridge, microwaves and coffee makers enough to make breakfast and have snacks around. You will save over $100/nt or more and that%26#39;s dinner out in my book!
FYI: May is a very busy month on the North Shore and especially at HBR. It is our homeowners meeting mid May and many homeowners come for a week or two. Besides that it the best time to visit and HBR see%26#39;s a lot of honeymooners like yourselves. I am saying this because some of the ';nicer'; units might be already booked or you have to hop on it.
I would be happy to recommend my favorites if you PM me.
HBR Honeymoon suite recommendation%26lt;%26lt;Hale Makai Cottage is still a very close, but pricey #2 - very top of our budget%26gt;%26gt; we stayed down the street from these cottages in 2007. As much as I loved being in Haena, it was pretty far from restaurants and other activities. The next time we stay on the north shore, we will stay at HBR. It seems remote and intimate but right in Princeville.
Regarding HBR, we toured unit 4222 last summer and really loved everything about it. It was close to the great pool (but not too close) and my 6 year old spent several hours swimming while we enjoyed a nice lunch from Happy Talk Lounge. You also have access to a very nice beach. We walked down a totally cool path but there is a shuttle that can take you down and back. It was a short walk. They also have nice tennis courts, barbecues and a smaller pool area. You can find some great condos through Summit Pacific.
Here is the link to the unit we toured:

PM ';jebett'; for more information on HBR. She is the expert on this complex. I really liked #4222 with 4221 for my family of 4.
lane2004, you really ought to look at Secret Beach Hideaway for your honeymoon. The property has only 3 luxury 1 BR vacation rental cottages that are very luxurious and private, separated by beautiful gardens. The views of the Pacific and sunsets are stunning and there is close access to Secret Beach which is very beautiful. The place has everything you have described and much more.
We just returned from Kauai and stayed there for 4 nights. If we had had more time, we would have stayed there longer. Their web site tells it all. The place looks exactly like the pictures show.
I hope you both have a great trip!
Aloha!
Wow! Secret Beach Cottages are quite nice (and expensive too!
I second the wow for Secret Beach, but unfornuately they are out of our budget. Thanks for all the info, I have everything I need to make my decision! Now I just need the next 3.5 months to fly by!
I have stayed in suite 4221-2 and both sides are beautiful with the same spectacular view.
The efficiency has a very comfortable bed facing Bali Hai. Also, a loveseat and a patio. Kitchen wise, it has a microwave and a small fridge - no table and chairs, but you can eat on the patio. It%26#39;s a wonderful unit, as long as you know the size.
