Kona or Kauai?

Thanks in advance for your advice...

We traveled to Maui last year and enjoyed it a lot. We especially had fun snorkeling. we stayed at a resortquest condo. it was do-able which I guess means we dont need fancy.

This year we are thinking Kona or Kauai. We like the idea of a hotel or condo with a beach or nearby beach we can walk in and snorkel. I havent seen any reviews of places in Kona with beaches so we are leaning towards Kauai. Not sure which is a better location. we will be traveling mid april(after easter) to mid may of 2009.

a little less touristy would be nice too. Maui was really swamped(as expected). we did look at resortquest islander and kauai beach at makaiwa but again not sure of location and maybe should check poipu?

any help would really be appreciated!
