My wife and I are planning a trip to Kauai during spring break. We are not looking for the party crowd but more of a relaxing scene. What is the weather like during this time? We%26#39;ve never been to hawaii so any recommendation will be helpful. From reading some topics, it seems like renting a condo is more economic so this is probably what we will do. Thanks
Going in March%26lt;%26lt;We are not looking for the party crowd but more of a relaxing scene%26gt;%26gt;
GOOD, you are coming to the right island. I personally would recommend the south shore but any where on the island will be fantastic.
There are so many nice condos in Poipu. I%26#39;m not sure what to recommend. But start here, I guess.
My husband stayed in Poipu Palms in December. It was a small condo but it was right on the water. He said it was perfect for two but not our family of 4.

Or you can check out Kiahuna Plantation Condos. They have a wonderful garden area and they are right on a great beach.

Other condos right on the point near Poipu Palms are:
Makahuena, Poipu Shores, Poipu Makai, just down the street from the Hyatt.
Also, Kuhio Shores is right on the ocean (no pool or garden) but a dramatic location:

Other condos in Poipu that I personally like are:
Poipu Kai (Manualoha and Poipu Sands) and Nihi Kai.
www.parrishkauai.com rents Poipu Kai as well as www.suite-paradise.com and www.vrbo.com.
This should get you started, at least.
You will get more responses regarding North Shore as well but I really like Hanalei Bay Resort summitpacificinc.com/hanalei_bay_resort.html
ONE other comment, please make dinner and tour reservations as soon as possible. I know the amount of visitors to the island is down so this may not be a problem this year. But when we traveled to Kauai in March 1998, we happened to be there during Spring Break and we could not get into any of our favorite restaurants on the island. I now book ahead as best I can and make changes once we get there. We usually plan our itinerary around hubby%26#39;s work schedule so dinner reservations were easy to stick to. Once you decide where you want to stay, you can then look at the dining and tour options.
Going in MarchI too recommend Kuhio Shores. March is a very popular time to visit the South Shore area of Kauai so you might want to act quickly. http://www.kuhioshores.net/ Terrific whale watching and swimming with the turtles from this beautiful spot.
I also like Poipu Shores for right on the water dramatic views and wake up to crashing waves type of accommodations.

Do not discount staying on the beautiful North Shore. Even though it sees more rain, in March (except 2 years ago when it rained everywhere for a month) it is usually pleasant.
Martik has given you excellent ideas on websites to scout out.
A third idea is to stay at a condo/hotel like ResortQuest, Islander on the Beach or Kauai Coast Resort. You have a studio or one bedroom with a resorty feel. These are all located on the East Shore. I prefer the North or South, but it is another option to look into.

togi5707, we just returned from our first visit to Kauai and we experienced most of the island. Kauai is by nature a relaxing place, but there is a marked difference between the north side of the island and the south side. We found that the north side of the island has more stunning scenery than the south and is a more relaxed and less commercial place to be. Renting a condo or house has more value probably, but the condos and cottages for daily rent are also very nice. We stayed at the Marriott Waiohai (south side) for 5 nights and Secret Beach Hideaway 9north side) for 4 nights. The Marriott 2BR condos were very nice standard villa/condos. The Secret Beach Hideaway cottage was a huge 1 BR luxury cottage. They have a web site and you should check it out.
I hope you have a great trip!
Aloha!
Richard
