haircut for asian hair in Kauai

Aloha,

I%26#39;m in Kauai for 3 more days and would love to find a great place to get my Asian hair cut (and possibly tinted) while I%26#39;m here. I see so many locals with really nice hair...

I%26#39;m staying in Poipu and don%26#39;t really think that the hotel type places I can afford. Am willing to travel to other sides of the island...

Mahalo, locals!

Uhhh, why don%26#39;t you just ask someone local (ie. the cashier, housekeeper, etc) where they got their hair done? If you see someone with really nice color or style, just complement them and ask them who did it for them.

You should not have a problem.

You might check out Boston Hair Design, I belive that is the correct name,or close to that in the local phone book.

That is were Erica and good many of our island lady friends go to to have their hair done....Rick and his wife are the owners and really neat and friendly and quite competent.

Erica was concerned when we moved over 2.5 years ago, as to where she would go to have her hair cut,and whatever you ladies do. Shortly after arriving, an acquaintance from the gym, suggested Boston Hair, and Erica could not be more pleased.

They are located in puhi across from KCC, just off the main highway toward Lihue, and maybe 12 minutes or so from poipu.

We have so many of Asian descent here, I%26#39;d think that almost any hairdresser would be familiar with cutting it.

Aloha from Kaua%26#39;i!

I agree with ';pzp'; - so much of our population is Asian that any hair salon not located in a hotel property will more than likely know what to do!

Here in the Po%26#39;ipu area there is really only one salon other than the hotel ones (there is one other one, but it caters to an older crowd) - it is called the ';Waiohai Hair Salon'; (don%26#39;t be confused, she used to have a salon at the old Waiohai Hotel before the hurricane blew it away - when she reopened in Old Koloa Town - never changed the name!)

--it is in Old Koloa Town right across from the Post Office - directly above ';Blue Orchid'; flowers. About 5 minutes away from most areas of Po%26#39;ipu Beach.

Amy Galante is the owner/hair stylist there and has been doing hair here locally for over 20 years - I guarantee she%26#39;d do a great job for you! Her phone number is (808) 742-9551.

Thank you, Janet, for the info! Sounds perfect!

Mahalo,

Amy Galante%26#39;s husband took our family photos this past summer. Great guy. Here is his blog with photos of Amy and his darling family.

Aloha from Kaua%26#39;i!

Just as an ';FYI'; and maybe make you feel more comfortable about Amy doing ';asian'; hair - Amy is what is called ';hapa'; - half Japanese - half haole.

She knows her stuff - believe me!

Janet

Aloha from Kaua%26#39;i!

Oh, on the website provided above - the fifth large picture down is Amy and her Mom at one of our

O-Bon dances - the one prior is Amy%26#39;s daughter, Midori, also dressed for O-Bon.

Malama Pono,

I have gone to both Studio 203 (in Lihue) and Bliss Salon (Kapaa). Leanne owns Studio 203 and Dane owns Bliss. The two of them are considered the best hairdressers in the island. Unfortunately, getting appointments with either of them is pretty hard, but anyone who works in either salon is def very good and professional.

Aloha from Kaua%26#39;i!

';The two of them are considered the best hairdressers in the island.';

Please no offense MarO, but I%26#39;d change that to say that they are two of the best hairdressers on the island -I don%26#39;t believe anyone has the clear cut title for best - there are lots of wonderful hair salons out there - I%26#39;ve never heard one or the other mentioned as being considered ';the best on island'; by everyone personally.

Just trying to be fair - in my opinion, My stylist is the best, but that is my opinion - I%26#39;m sure lots of folks think the same about their own stylist as well. We are blessed to have lots of wonderful hair stylists here to choose from!

Janet
