How to pick a condo in West Maui?

Hi, We are planning our first trip to Hawaii. We want to go to Maui in early March. We have heard we should stay on the west side along Kaanapali beach. We need help on picking a condo. We want a condo versus a hotel so we can have a refrigerator etc. We need to keep the price within reason. We have heard Whalers village is fun so we were considering the Whaler condos, but we have since heard there is a lot of construction going on there. Does anyone know about this or have suggestions for us?

Thanks

Sandy

You can start by going to vrbo.com you will find lots of condos in many sizes and prices. When you find one you think might meet your expectations, you can always come back here and ask for any input.

We stay in a real nice studio at the Royal Kahana

but Kahana is at least a 5-10 minute drive to Kaanapali

Have you viewed aerials on www.wizardpub.com?

You will be able to find lower rates than those published.

wizardpub.com is a good place to start as well. I don%26#39;t know about all the construction going on at the Whaler but if it takes the pool out of commission or causes lots of noise problems, go elsewhere. I think a higher level floor will take care of the noise though.

If you look at a map of the resorts of Kaanapali, you%26#39;ll see that that Black Rock, in front of the Sheraton, splits the beach in 2. The condos and hotels north of Black Rock are going to be more reasonable but will take more of a walk to get you to Whalers Village and all the shopping and restaurants. The northern half of Kaanapali beach is still great though so look into the condos from the El Dorado going north.

Let me add www.chasenrainbows.com to you search possibilities. What is your budget and how many are traveling. That will help advice as well.

We stayed at Papakea in Kaanapali...

It%26#39;s an older ';resort';, more like a small apartment complex (only 4 floors). Beautiful grounds, 2 pools, oceanfront, gas grills for guests to use, price is right!!!

We loved our time there, perfect place for us, breakfast every morning on the lanai, wine in the evening at the waterfront as the sun went down, shoot, it%26#39;s grey and snowy here, I%26#39;m ready to go now!!!

A lot of people book a year out (as we did), so you better start hopping!

We loved our condo at Kaanapali Shores..beautiful grounds, uncrowded beach, lovely lanai and condo...and a grocery right across the street as well as a place you might like (according to your name) Java Jazz which has great food! We rented from VRBO..PM me if you want the number.(And I agree, you%26#39;d better get going on this, although tourism is really down this year and you might get lucky!!)
