I%26#39;ve read that you should not carry anything in your car when sightseeing when you will be walking away and leaving it unattended. We are considering spending the last night of our trip in Hana, and the only way we can do it is by carrying everything with us. Is this a bad idea? Someone said they keep their original hotel as well, but we could not afford to do that. I%26#39;ve not made that last day%26#39;s reservation, waiting to hear from you guys. Thanks!
Security of Hana driveI posted this question a couple of months ago. We are staying in Hana for 2 nights and have no choice but to bring our luggage. If you search for the post title ';Driving to Hana with luggage in car'; you might be able to find it.
Basically the responses were that there are many places you can stop along the road to sightsee without leaving sight of your car. You will have to plan any longer hikes for after checking in and leaving your luggage at your accommodations.
Security of Hana drivethe main thing is to keep everything in the trunk of the car leaving nothing of value on the seats
If you put your luggage in your trunk and do not access it when stopping then nobody will know it is in there. I wouldn%26#39;t wander off onto a trail and go hiking with everything in the car, but keeping it in sight is not a bad idea at all.
These practices should be applied to anywhere you drive in Hawaii, at home, Mexico, etc -- not just Hana.
Hi Mountainkid: This topic came up in March/08 and one of the suggestions to avoid carrying all of your luggage to Hana was to carry a knapsack with overnight requirements and store the rest of your luggage near the airport. You then keep your knapsack with you at all times so that you don%26#39;t have to worry about car breakins. The following is the information given by %26lt;bluestravel4less%26gt;:
';If you are worried about taking your luggage to Hana, I have had the suggestion made and called the following storage company. They provide a small storage space at $28 (actually for 30 days).. You can take a back pack for what you need overnight... We may do this for our overnight stay and also use it when we check out of the hotel before we leave later in the night';.
Extra Space Storage Kahului 808-877-2600
Also one in Lahaina
AAAAA Rent-a-Space $3.50/bag per day
808-669-5200
I hope this helps! Sue
This sounds like a really good idea - especially since we won%26#39;t really need much with us for one night! Thanks
