Anyone been to the KBH lately?
I was there last March and although our room was in the middle of the construction zone, they only work from 8:00 to 3:00 pm weekdays.
this is a great question since i just found out we are staying in a oceanfront room (yeah! great surprize) but then found that they are not all that. anyone with updates on this hotel??
Just wondered if anything new about the KBH?
Thanks in advance.
Im just bumping this up...as I will be there in Sept. and was wondering how the construction was progressing....
We only have an oceanview room booked..Im a little worried I will be wishing it was an oceanfront room...
I wonder what my chances are that Id be able to upgrade to an Oceanfront room after we arrive???
Has anyone had luck doing this?....
Did you get charged the full upgrade price or did you get a discounted price...
or did you get turned down altogether????...
Heres hopeing it will workout for me...
Betsy V - the upgrades there are slow because renovation is being done one room at a time rather than a major overhaul. The possibility of free upgrades is one I doubt, so if oceanfront is important to you then change your reservation. We had booked a garden view, it was unrenovated and we wanted more - they graciously allowed us to view and choose our own room, but we had to pay the difference and had no qualms about it. My advice is not to book anything less than you are willing to take, some places upgrade and many do not - never count on it.
I am staring at the KBH right now. They are setting up some scaffolding and you can hear them drilling out something. They are working from 9:30am-4:30 pm daily. I spoke to the manager of KBH, Krystal and she said they are replacing the balconies, carpets, paint and doing some other upgrades. A few days ago, it was so noisy that you could hear the construction on the beach for a good portion of the day! You can also hear the construction workers yelling/talking while they are working. Depending on which way you are facing at the KBH, you might also be looking onto the tennis courts of the Whaler which they have basically used as a dumping ground for all of their renovations. Old pool deck chairs, piles of dirt, tarps, etc. The hotels just before Christmas were running at about 30% (was told this by the Hyatt and the Whaler) so you could probably have some pretty good negotiating power if you ask nicely.
Would you mind asking them to hurry up. We%26#39;re staying at the KBH Feb. 13-23. Thanks. :)
Oh boy, maybe I should change my reservations! If it%26#39;s that noisy....any further feedback from others? Do those that have stayed there recently wish they would have stayed elsewhere?
I will say that after the one reviewer complained about getting a smoking room when they booked nonsmoking, I called and wrote asking for a written guarantee of a nonsmoking room, and they gave that to me. I told them I%26#39;d change hotels if they didn%26#39;t give that to me, that I saw the review on TA, and they didn%26#39;t blink about the guarantee. I have an oceanfront room booked, and I%26#39;ve also just seen those rooms going for about $70 less than I have it booked, so I%26#39;m heavily considering change for my Feb dates. Hmmm....isn%26#39;t one of the wings completed and quieter? I just wanted that location, that section of Kaanapali, oceanfront so I%26#39;m not feeling trapped when my kid is jetlagged, but maybe I should book one of the condos nearby. Appreciate all feedback!
waterkat - I think the only wing that is completed is the Maui wing, but they may have finished with the Lanai wing as well. The wing with oceanfront rooms will be the Kauai wing or the Molokai wing - which is the one I believe needs the most work. Ask the hotel if those rooms have been renovated. General rule of thumb is that they will renovate the most valuable rooms first.
As for the smoking rooms, those are strictly stated that smoking is do be done on the lanai only and those are top floors of only certain buildings, used to also allow on certain ground floor rooms. If someone got a smoke smelling room then it means that a previous guest was a renegade and the hotel will have to take measures to clear that odor. Hawaii law permits a rather stiff fine to be given to those guests who break the rules and smoke in non-smoking rooms, but of course it is up to the hotel to follow that up.
A large percentage of Kaanapali is under construction, including the whaler next door to KBH. Oceanfront is going to be noisier by default anyway due to the traffic on the beachwalk right in front of you.
I don%26#39;t blame anyone for not wanting to stay in a construction zone, but there are varying levels of construction and a query to the hotel would be the best bet. So far we have been to several places where construction was not stated upfront and there was some noise, others where there was serious work going on seemed to actually be quieter!
