Oceanfront hotel with nice beach

I am going to Kona next week, I like sand beaches, what hotels would anybody recomend and how can I get to any other beaches. This is my first time to Kona

Oceanfront hotel with nice beach

Easy.....there are NONE. in the kona area....well the King Kam has a tiny beach about 150ft long.

There is 2 hotels on the entire island that have nice beaches....Mauna Kea and Kona Village both run about 450-600 a night.....about 30 miles north

In kona you can drive 30 min north to Kua bay or 45 min north to A bay at Waikoloa Beach Resort.... or 1 hour to Hapuna or Mauna Kea beach

Dan is right, there really is no beach right in Kona. Most of the resorts in Kohala are on or very neach good beaches. You%26#39;ll want a car on the Big Island regardless of where you stay.

Hapuna Prince Beach Hotel and Mauna Kea Hotel are ocean-front hotels on the best beaches on Hawaii. They are technically on the north Kohala coast, rather than in the Kona area, but it is still the dry side of the island.

Not trying to be picky, Pareo, but ..

%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;They are technically on the north Kohala coast, rather than in the Kona area,

They are in SOUTH Kohala district, and no one on the island considers it a technicality to distinguish between Kona and Kohala. They are VERY different.

Karina, what you want is in South Kohala, not Kona. You will fly into KOA airport, which is north of Kailua-Kona and south of South Kohala.

You definitely will be helped by reading up on the island in a book or a good overview website. If you had you would know there aren%26#39;t sandy beaches to speak of in Kona. Reading up will help you plan a good vacation. The forum can%26#39;t do it all for you.

I would take a look at the Marriott and the Hapuna Prince.

The Marriott beach is bermed up in winter though, so you would probably prefer Hapuna.

You would enjoy the Hapuna Prince or Mauna Kea hotels up in Kohala.

There are oceanfront hotels in Kailua-Kona and you can drive to beaches from them or (even better) snorkeling sites. Check out the Royal Kona Resort, one of my favorites.

i recommend staying on the Kohala coast. I enjoy staying in the Waikoloa Beach Resorts. If you want a hotel the Marriot is right on the beach. If you don%26#39;t mind walking or a one minute drive there are numerous condo complexes in the Waikoloa Beach Resort. The beach is referred to there a A-Bay and it is a very nice beach. We just returned after a 2 week trip and the water is warm and calm. About half the time it was clear for some excellent snorkeling. We saw many sea turtles and even a whale breach from the beach. There are free and many beach chairs available to all who use the beach. You don%26#39;t have to be a guest at the Marriott. From the beach they offer boat cruises for whale watching, glass bottom boats, ocean bikes, kyacks etc... We rented in the Fairway Villas from an owner thru www.vrbo.com and were very pleased with the complex. The price was $129/night for a 2 bedroom/2 bathroom unit that was about 4 or 5 years old. We both walked and drove to A-Bay. Kona is about 30 minutes south. Another great beach about 10 minutes north is the Hapuna Beach. A great beautiful beach for boogie boarding in the winter. It has a beach grill that is reasonably priced and decent food. I think you will be very happy if you enjoy the beach as I do.

Not strictly true. Most guests at Kona Village Resort take a cab from the airport and just spend their time at the Village.

Thank you for all your advises.

Beach chairs etc at hotels are for guests only...I am not sure how somebody thought they are free for all to use... but I can assure you that that has never been the case at any hotel I know here....

It is considered very bad manners and is a hot topic with hotel security to use hotel chairs and facilities unless your a guest. Hilton has a pool pass they sell for $80 per person. to use their chairs and pools....

I would double check with the Marriott or any other hotel prior to doing this..... I highly doubt it however....

The chairs on the beach at A-Bay are free. I have been coming here for 15 years and was just there everyday for 2 weeks. Not one person inquired about chair use. They were stacked up for anyone to use. No sign forbidding use. You are wrong, they are available for anyone. Go over and use one yourself if you don%26#39;t believe me.
