Since the water bottle craze hit the mainland... visitors here have been buying the stuff here by the ton....and only 20% ever gets recycled....much is just thrown by the side of the road or stuffed n trash.
In Hawaii we have only a finite amount of land and a our land fill/dumps are being flodded with hundreds of thousands of little water bottles...
The Hilo dump is now filled and the Kohala dump is filling fast.. One case of bottles used the same power as if you left your light on 24 hours a day for 6 days !
Consider please, too, that the waste of energy for these bottles is not to be beleived... for one bottle it takes the same energy to run a 60 watt light for 6 hours......if that puts things in perspective
Please when, you come here bring a reusable water bottel....we used to call them canteens ... and drink the local water....no one has yet died from it... and take the bottle home.
.Please consider that every action no mater how small it might seem, will have an effect.....This small item is becoming a big problem here.
