Orchid Cottage or Kimo's Hale

Has anyone ever stayed at either of these places? The Orchid Cottage (http://www.vrbo.com/22597) looks like it%26#39;s at the east end of Anini Beach, but from the aerial photos, I%26#39;m not sure where the beach access is.

Kimo%26#39;s Hale (www.kimosvacationrentals.com/index.html) is a yurt that is within walking distance of Kepuhi beach.

My wife and I are looking for something simple and private on the north side of the island for our 30th anniversary. We would like at least some cooking facilities but don%26#39;t need a gourmet kitchen since we%26#39;ll be spending most of our time at the beach. We%26#39;d like to be able to walk to a beach for some snorkeling and for nighttime walks. Maybe some of you have some other suggestions, too. I%26#39;ve been surfing the web for a couple weeks, so I doubt I%26#39;ve missed too much. We%26#39;re trying to keep our costs to no more than $200/night.

Hi Desert Beach -

I haven%26#39;t stayed at the Orchid Cottage, but have stayed many times at Anini. I believe the cottage is located behind one of the main houses across the road from the beach. In that area, there are large luxury homes on the beach side of the road with huge walls and tropical plantings that pretty much block any view of the ocean from the other side of the road. However, there are several places where you can walk between the private homes to get to the beach via a public path. The beach is quite nice there -- soft sand and gentle surf and not at all crowded.

If you haven%26#39;t already checked this site out, try Serenity Rentals -- they have a number of Anini properties and there are at least a couple more that would fit your price range and also be directly on the beach. These are probably not as cute as Orchid, but the locations are wonderful.

Good Luck!

I%26#39;m still trying to find any independent information about the Kimo%26#39;s Hale yurt near Kepuhi Beach. The owner has been really helpful in providing information, but I%26#39;d sure like to get a third party%26#39;s opinion.

Thanks!

Hi,

Did you ever stay at the yurt at Kimo%26#39;s Hale, or did you get more information? Sounds interesting. Going to Hawaii in 2010, and would love more info on this yurt in Kauai. Why isn%26#39;t there more info on Tripadvisor?

We did stay at the yurt for 1 week in June 2007. IMO it is a great deal for 2 people. It is pretty simple, basically just a big tent with a nice wood floor. It was very clean and we had the use of the owner%26#39;s hot tub, grill and outdoor shower. It was only about a block and a half from Kepuhi Beach, where the snorkeling was very good.

Only a couple of drawbacks, which weren%26#39;t that big of a deal:

There is only a small, dorm size refrigerator, which didn%26#39;t hold much food, so we had to keep some of our stuff in ice chests and buy ice every day,

It could get very warm inisde the yurt during the day. But since we weren%26#39;t there much anyway that wasn%26#39;t a problem. It cooled down quickly in the later afternoon/evening.

Let me know if you have any other specific questions.
