bus service

just wondering what the bus service is like, we are staying in oahu but are planning on going to maui to do the %26#39;road to hana%26#39; tour, then stop the night and explore maui a bit the next day.

want to visit the hard rock cafe in lahaina for example but are probably going to be stopping in kahului.

is there a bus service that runs through these places?

bus service

bus service is slow --- you dont say where you are staying but there is no public bus service on the road to hana --- there are tour companies that drive small tour buses

where are you planning to stop the nite before exploring maui the next day

i have a feeling there is public bus service to lahaina from kahului but not sure

bottom line is you would be better off renting a car and driving yourself

for the bus schedule

Can anyone tell what bus I would need to take from the Mahana condos to the Old Lahaina Luau and back and what stops would be the closest to each

We just got back from Maui, and though we did notice the bus driving through Kihei, I don%26#39;t think it is very reliable. My husband and I went for a walk (a long walk) at the start of our walk we noticed 2 women standing at the bus stop on S. Kihei Rd. as we walked and walked a good 1/2 hour went by and we were heading back to our condo when we passed the same 2 women plus about another 4 people still waiting for a bus at the very same stop!

So really you might want to rent a car.

You should rent a car, there are a few shuttle%26#39;s between hotels on the West side but I have watched the local ';bus'; and would never count on it! You need to either drive the road to Hana or sign on for a tour...with all of Maui to visit why on earth is the ';Hard Rock'; a destination!? just curious

kiddo...there is no public transport in hawaii....you either have a car or you dont get to anyplace.... it aint like catching a bus to Cheatnum Hill..... You will wait for hours if the bus even runs or not....its a fools errand.

Oh we will have a car, but because the Luau serves adult beverages, we thought it might be nice to just take a bus there and back. So you are saying this is not possible huh?

The buses on Maui can get you to quite a few places, service has expanded and improved - however they do not go to Hana.

Since you mentioned a luau - which one will you plan to attend? Great idea not to drink and drve!

At this point I am reading that you will be staying in Kahului and driving the road to Hana, then doing a luau? I am a tiny bit confused - please correct me.

Will you be on Maui for a few days or just one?

ok - so it is early here and I am going to try and straighten out me reply -

Travelingforsanity - see the bus link that I posted - also there is a shuttle bus that runs through West Maui and connects to various points along the way, including Lahaina - worst case if you had to get a cab it would not be horrendously expensive,

universalfan - allow me to clarify that if you are staying in Kahului and heading to Hana, driving to Lahaina - mileage means nothing on the islands - allow a day for Hana and minimum of an hour from Kahului to Lahaina -

Are you planning on staying in Kahului? It is a commercial town, not a tourist destination. Get a place to stay in Lahaina or Kaanapali and you would at least be in a beach location. And why on earth would you want to visit the Hard Rock Cafe? It%26#39;s just an overpriced chain restaurant.
