Waikiki Beach....& Proper Etiquette of Other People

We were enjoying the beach last week, %26amp; there was a young man that came over to our 2 teen daughters %26amp; started photographing them laying on the beach sunning themselves. The girls has shorts %26amp; a tank top on, %26amp; at 1st I was flattered.....then started to give him ~The Look~ that Mother%26#39;s use to say....';Back Off';!!

I kept doing that till he walked away. Then I started thinking....what was he really doing?? So I continued to watch him...%26amp; sure enough, ...he went over close to another couple of girls who were in bikini%26#39;s, %26amp; started taking their pictures....from the feet upwards!! They had NO idea what he was doing.

We continued to watch him taking INAPPROPIATE pictures of a whole lot of un-suspecting people. At one point, he hid behind the bushes by the showers %26amp; took pictures of ladies bending over to wash their feet....(%26amp; got whatever didn%26#39;t stay in the tops correctly as they were bending over!)

Being close to the Police station, I walked over to ask them to stop him, %26amp; the Police told me that it was a Public beach, %26amp; he could take any kinds of pictures he wanted too!!

That%26#39;s just WRONG!!

My sister got out her video camera %26amp; started filming HIM..%26amp; made it very obvious to him that we did not approve of what he was doing...%26amp; how%26#39;d he like it......so he just walked away %26amp; kept doing it down the beach somewhere else.

Hope everyone who goes to Waikiki Beach to soak up some tropical sun, is aware the ~someone~ could be taking their pictures....for God only knows for what reasons!! So be careful.

And for those perverts who do this....SHAME ON YOU!!!

Waikiki Beach....%26amp; Proper Etiquette of Other People

As the mom of an eighteen year old daughter, I can only imagine how uspetting this was. I would have really told him where to stick his camera--mama bear to the rescue. Yuck! What a slimy jerk.

Waikiki Beach....%26amp; Proper Etiquette of Other People

It may or may NOT have been legal. Since he took pictures of UNDERAGED girls I would have expected the police to at least ask the man his name and check that he was not on a registered sex offenders list,, they are often prohibited from taking photos ( especially if offence was making or transmitting pornograhpy) I would have pointed this out to police. They would likely have not been thrilled by my request, but they also would have likely done something as they realize it could have been true. They are perfectly entitled to speak to the man, whether or not what he was doing was legal, if his activitiy was disturbing others. They may not have had any legal teeth, but they certainly could have nicely asked man to move along. They were lazy.

Also as the mother of a young girl I would have stood up and asked the man to p8ss off, seriously, those shots can be altered and put out on the web so easily.. my husband would have had no problem with talking to the man either,, you were held back, trying to be polite and not cause a scene, that is exactly what this perv counted on.

It is ok to say no,, and say it loudly,, we all have to learn this. You don%26#39;t have to yell, or be rude or abusive.. just a firm, ';hey, why are you taking pictures of my children'; said loudly enough would have likely scared creepo away..

Good for you at least for trying, and thanks for posting, we will certainly watch out for this creep.. you have done us all a service.
