Best hotel for vacation w/ 2 yo

I read the reviews and most state the upscale hotels are kid-friendly with special kid programs. These programs have a min age of 5 yo. 4S has the best reviews but wonder if it is worth the cost given vacation is w/ an active 2 yo vice honeymoon/couple%26#39;s vacation.

Fairmont seems to be a possibility but the reviews are not glowing.

Which hotel would you choose given we have our 2 yo? Or would a condo in Wailea be better choice?

It all depends on what you want. Are you looking for babysitting? We started taking our son to Maui at 3 but we always stayed in a condo to have the convenience of a kitchen and washer and dryer and at that age I was comfortable leaving him with people I didn%26#39;t know.

i too would suggest a condo with the amenities as posted above

We will be traveling with our daughter who will be 18 months at the time of our vacation in March.

We looked at various hotels but decided to stay in a condo for the extra space and convenience of having a kitchen, etc.

I was also really worried about my daughter being on the balcony of a high floor unit/room as she likes to climb- I was concerned we wouldn%26#39;t be able to guarantee a ground floor if we booked a hotel room or a condo through a rental agency so I found a ground floor condo I liked through VRBO and booked that.

I would get a condo with a separate bed area for your two year old for naps and earlier bedtime leaving you some living space and the lanai for adult time. I would also get a condo with a/c.

When I first started planning our trip, I was convinced I wanted to stay at a resort (Westin, Hyatt, Grand Wailea) for my trip in April with my 16 month old. My husband and I have always enjoyed staying in nice places with fancy pools and umbrella drinks when we travel.

However, the more research I did via this site and others AND the more thinking I did about the logistics (meals, laundry, separate sleep space for naps/early bedtimes, etc) of traveling with a toddler, I came to realize that we would all probably be happier in a condo.

We found an oceanfront condo with washer/dryer, kitchen, 2 bedrooms, and a small pool. We will be staying there for 7 nights on our trip. Then, we will move to the Grand Wailea for the last 2 nights of our trip. We are hoping that this provides a good balance between practicality and the luxury of staying in a nice resort! Keep in mind, we haven%26#39;t made our trip yet...so I%26#39;ll be better able to advise in a few months.

I can%26#39;t comment on the hotels that much but I just got back from Makena Surf and I highly recommend it. Two bedrooms are a must IMO for naps and just for enjoying a late dinner when your 2 yo is in bed. This is hard to do in a hotel room. It seems too that the hotels are all pretty big so I would worry about the long walks to the beach and pools from your room through the lobby and restaurants. Makena Surf is great so is Wailea Beach Villas for a little higher end. We also looked at Elua which seemed nice from the outside but didn%26#39;t go it any of the condos. Talk to Villas of Hawaii. They were very helpful with us this year and we are booking through them again for next Christmas. www.villasofhawaii.com

At that age my son liked to play in the pool. I would also recommend a condo, but I would try to find something with a kids pool that has very shallow water.

We are getting ready to stay at the Maui Ocean Club in a one bedroom. That way we have some space for naps and a little privacy at night. It is so hard being in one room when your little one is trying to sleep and you are wide awake.

We like the fact that this hotel has a pirate pool with sandy area and a little slide. So we get the ';resort'; feel with a condo on Kaanapali that meets our other needs.
