Hawaiian entertainment

Hello, Its been a while since I posted but I do watch the forum for info for my trip this May.

We are a group of 8 so for us to go to a luau would cost $1000. We want go snorkeling and other things so a luau is out. I know we can get the hawaiian food experience at da kitchen and other plate lunches. We are staying in kihei at a time share. I would like to go see some hawaiian music or entertainment at a reasonable price. Thanks

If you are up for a drive to Napili there are weekly concerts, Masters of Slack Key - cost $45 per person. Pack up a big picnic, take it up that way and sit on the beach at Napili or wherever for sunset, then wander over to Napili Kai Resort for the show. The Kaanapali Beach Hotel offers nightly music and dance that is free, but if you want to sit close to the stage there is a minimum of drink and food from the bar/grill (burgers etc) - but seating is available nearby that really doesn%26#39;t hinder the experience - or you can have dinner at the Tiki Terrace. The Old Lahaina Luau does offer the opportunity to see the show without purchasing the meal.

Maui Arts and Cultural Center http://www.mauiarts.org/

and many restaurants and even shopping venues offer entertainment

Just to let you know, local food and the food that is served at a luau are two totally different things. You won%26#39;t get the ';Hawaiian food experience'; at Da Kitchen.

oh yeah, closer to your lodgings, the Maui Prince holds a Drums of the Pacific Luau twice a week, we did not attend, but the food at the hotel is excellent and we did listen in from our lanai and the music was great - so I will throw the old %26#39;dollar a day%26#39; line at you - between now and May you each save an additional dollar a day and that will cover the cost of the luau. Just a thought.

You can get the Royal Lahaina Luau for about 50$ per adult, with one free kid per adult.

I believe The Shops at Wailea puts on a free hula show Wednesday nights. Also, if you go for a walk on the paved path that runs in front of the Grand Wailea, you can catch the entertainment of the Marriot%26#39;s luau on Monday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights.

You can also catch one at the Lahaina Cannery Mall or at Ka%26#39;anapali Beach Hotel.

Thanks you all for your reply and advice. I tried to have my son and his wife go and I%26#39;d watch the kids at the condo, but he doesn%26#39;t want to pay that price.I thought it would be a nice night out for them. I do like slack steel and may try to go for that I will check the newspaper entertainment sections.

DH and I are hopping over to Kauai after being on Maui for a week with the kids.

Have a Hawaiian Plate lunch dinner at Aloha Mixed Plate. The Old lahaina Luau is next door so you can hear the music. Aloha Mixed Plate is owned by the luau.

It is a casual location on an oceanfront property.

Royal Lahaina was a great luau for our family. They had all the hawaiian food but they also had another small buffet of ';kids'; food. Lots of adults were making selections from the kids table.

Queen Kaahumanu Shopping Ceners have a great Friday night show once a month.

KPOA radio sponsers a free show with Uncle Poki under a big tree in Wailuku. He has guest musicians and it was low key and nice.

When in May will you be here? On May 16 Keali`i Reichel will present a program of chant at the Maui Arts %26amp; Cultural Center. This would a true Hawaiian cultural experience, far better than any hotel Polynesian-review lu`au.

Kiwahine - ';On May 16 Keali`i Reichel...';

man oh man I keep missing his performances!

If anyone is on Maui at thet time, GO - he is a wonderful artist! We are scheduled to arrive the following week.... arghhhhh

Hey Cridt - How do you get a $50 ticket to the Royal Lahaina Luau with a free kids pass? The cheapest on the web is ~ $90 per adult with a discount for a kid. Does this require some kind of a time share viewing? If not, its a great deal!
