Rough plan for the last leg of my July trip is
- arrive Kona Thu night (from Hilo)
- Wife/daughter dive on Fri (first timers, beginners; they plan to get certified in California before we go)
- Hang out at Kuhuluu Beach on Saturday
- Fly back on Sunday
From another post, I have a question : is this sufficient time between a dive and a flight - or do I need to plan on the dive for Thursday (which would require arriving in Kona a day earlier, which means cutting a day out of either my Hilo or more likely my Kohala itinerary) ???
is it okay to dive on friday, fly on sunday ?
I ';was'; a certified diver, but haven%26#39;t been diving in a number of years. So, don%26#39;t take my answer as the authority on this topic! If I recall, the PADI rule was 24 hours after a dive before you fly. Your family will learn this during their lessons. If I were you, since you are trying to plan flight arrangements around diving, I would call the dive shop where they are taking their lessons to run it by them.

I also am not an expert, but here is what I found. After a single dive 12 hours, after multiple dives 18 hours. Here is the link:

It also depends on how deep you dive, you really should call the operation you are going out with.
Thanks all for the quick responses. I will have %26gt; 48 hours, so looks like I am okay. And it will be a beginner dive so I am sure it will be the shallowest one offered. But I will follow up with the suggestion to call the dive shop directly before I finalize the itinerary - thanks all...
