Help Help Marriott Lihue or Sheraton Poipu??????????????????

Can%26#39;t decide on which property to stay at. Beach activities are one of the most important criteria for us snorkeling, boogie boarding, surfing, floating, right from the beach itself in front of each hotel.

We also want clean and comfortable and modern rooms with nice tropical grounds and atmosphere and a nice lounge with a view of the ocean while sitting and having a drink and a nice restaurant for dinner on property.

Another plus plus would be shops/convenience store that you can walk to from the hotel do either have this?

Thanks.

there are lots of shops right by the Marriott. From the Sheraton you%26#39;d have a fairly long walk to Poipu shopping center.

Other than that, I%26#39;d say they%26#39;re a push. Poipu would have much better snorkelling nearby, the Marriott has nicer grounds IMO. I%26#39;d rather swim in Poipu but the beach at Kalapaki is very nice too.

Depending on time of year and $$ there isn%26#39;t a huge difference.

The Sheraton is a much smaller hotel with less shops and that other big resort stuff. But the location cannot be beat. It%26#39;s right on a great beach in a nice area.

The Marriott Lihue is larger with an expansive, ';roman'; style pool. Kind of out of place, IMO. But it has more amenties, more shops, closer to more restaurants within walking distance, etc.

We stayed at the Sheraton Poipu last month on our honeymoon and loved it. It would meet most of the criteria that you describe above--the beach is beautiful and fronts the hotel, and both Shells and the Point face out over the ocean. We had an amazing buffet breakfast watching the sunrise at Shells, and spent our first night at the Point camped out over an informal dinner during a wild winter storm. It was really amazing.

The ocean during the time we were there was too rough for snorkeling due to the winter storm, but it is supposed to be beautiful. My husband rented a boogie board and had fun. A lot of the beginning surf lessons paddle out to the breaks at the beach the Sheraton fronts.

We had an ocean front room in the Ocean Wing, and had a stunning view of the ocean. If you want to be near the ocean, I recommend staying clear of the Garden Wing rooms--they%26#39;re quite removed from it.

The only downfall is that it would be a 15-minute walk to the Poipu Shopping Center, as others have suggested. However, I genuinely can%26#39;t imagine a hotel closer to the beach than the Sheraton.

Bear in mind, the walk to the Poipu Shopping Centre from the Sheraton is through the Kiahuna grounds - that can%26#39;t be a drawback. It is gorgeous! The most direct route takes you through beautiful gardens, right past Plantation Gardens Restaurant (terrific IMO), under huge monkeypod trees... You would probably find yourself exploring more of Kiahuna once you have seen it. It is a treasure of beautiful walks to and from the ocean, winding by and through incredible foliage.

The other thing you can do is stroll down the beach from the Sheraton, in front of Kiahuna and just around the point, and you are at the Waiohai Marriott which has a very neat marketplace and Starbucks. Not far and a favorite sunrise or sunset beach walk. Often see weddings there (in front of Kiahuna) it is so beautiful.

Sunset drinks on the Terrace at the Sheraton - perfect. Incredible views, peaceful, Kauai.

The lounge is right on the ocean as well. There are several excellent restaurants on the property or within walking range.

Either would be a wonderful holiday. Both have much to offer. To me, coming to Kauai means staying away from highrises, but the Marriott might be just right for you. Great restaurants and shops there! Kalapaki Beach is a beaut. (although I don%26#39;t know about snorkelling there?) It%26#39;s a personal preference. We love heaing out into the countryside to Poipu.

You know, the Sheraton used to have a wabcam on their beach - check their site and maybe have a realtime look!

What a great choice to have to make! Have fun with it!

Sorry about the typos. I have a couple of sticking keys on my keyboard and they are a pain. We love HEADING out to Poipu.

%26lt;%26lt;The only downfall is that it would be a 15-minute walk to the Poipu Shopping Center, as others have suggested%26gt;%26gt;

As ';mezsop'; mentions, the walk from the Sheraton to the Poipu Shopping Village is a direct shot through Kiahuna Plantation Condos and right past our favorite restaurant, Plantation Gardens. It is indeed a beautiful walk. It%26#39;s about 1/6 mile so I guess it would take 15 minutes if you stop and smell all of the flowers! :)

We walk from our rental on Baby%26#39;s Beach to the sherton and then over to Poipu Shopping Village all of the time! It%26#39;s about 3 miles round trip.

Sorry, Sheraton! I too have a sticky keyboard.
