I%26#39;ll be vacationing at a Waialea Beach rental next week and am wondering what to expect in terms of surf, weather, ocean temps for this period. Any advise?
Also, is there a good option for fresh seafood? (market) I%26#39;m planning to check out the fish market in Kawaihae, but not sure if thats the best option. I%26#39;ve read that the Kona Sac n Save might be an option too-
Surf on Kohala Coast Mid JanuarySurf depends on the swell that day...changes daily
Weather will be 80 High 68 low, ocean about 73-72
periods of strong winds.. and periods of rain.
Dont plan on surfing
Good fresh fish is hard to come by...and is extremely expensive... $12 to $25 a pound very limited variety....we dont have a fishing fleet here
most is shipped in frozen.
Surf on Kohala Coast Mid JanuarySurf has been up this last week, but things can change at any time and today it looks calmer.
I bought some Ahi at KTA Weds. for $6.99 per pound. Normally my husband does the market and I do the farmers market but after reading the prices on this forum I decided to check prices for myself.
Whoa! They must have had a good day on the water that day. I go to KTA almost every day and I hardly ever see any fish there under $12/lbs, except shark fillet.
Surf swells come and go ... by a few days out NOAA will have a prediction for anything significant. Water is calmest at Waialea in the morning.
Fish - yes, go to Foodland Farms at the Mauna Lani Shoppes, very close to you and the prices are the same as the Foodland in Waimea. This is in addition to the fish market.
No need to spend $20 in gas and two hours to save money on fish for dinner. ;-)
Dear SF: Yes check daily surf conditions (tnen drive to best conditions). For example I%26#39;ve only seen surfing once at Pololu Beach, like they were all tied into the same surf bulletin. BTW not a good beach to swim at. My last trip out, Beach 67 was really calm one day then next day way too rough to swim/snorkel. Be safe, TheodoreJay
Thank you everyone for your responses
